Have any of donated either?

If yes, what was your experience?

I have “donated” plasma and also worked at a plasma donation clinic for a year. Happy to answer any questions you have.

Donating was really helpful when I was in undergrad and money was tight. Pretty chill experience. Personally, I find the whole experience a relaxing way to burn an hour and make some cash

About once a year for the last 20 years. My only problem is they often have trouble finding the vein. Have the same issue each year when my doc has me do a blood test for my physical. Now I tell them up front so they send me to the most experienced phlebotomist.

I did platelets for a few years, both double needle and single needle. I had above average platelet counts so they were happy to get me in. I've also done a few pints of whole blood over the years. I stopped doing the regular platelet donations when the woman that always got the stick the first time retired. I'm usually a hard stick except in my hands. Also my wife, an RN and CRNI certified, told me I might want to save some unsecured veins in case I needed them one day.

Way back when my wife was pregnant with our first son Kaiser required husbands to donate a pint of blood. It was my first time donating blood. I turned green and had to breathe into a bag. I've been on accidents with blood and injured people, no problem, but I was busy. Getting stuck isn't a big deal. It's the anticipation then laying there while doing the donation that got to me. Over the years I've learned to control breathing and relax.

Been donating couple times a year for about 20 years or so... last time they put me on a machine that returned my blood after they filtered it.. prolly the platelet thing. Single needle tho.. wasn't any issues.. no pain... 😟

I have an appointment tomorrow to give whole blood. I can fill a bag in less than 10 minutes and be out of there. Platelet and Plasma donations seem to take hours and I don't really like the idea of blood coming back in. I'm okay giving it but I don't want the leftovers put back in.

I started giving blood years ago when they had a blood drive at the school and cute girls were giving shoulder rubs and snacks after the donation. I used to give once a year but since Red Cross told me I'm a hero for babies I do it more often. They send me emails telling me about all the babies I've saved so I continue. Also I think having your body replenish blood is healthy.

If you haven't given blood, you should try it. Maybe you're a hero for babies too.
