You guys are making me hungry.

My beans have not produced any picking fruit yet. My peas are going strong but the problem is, when I pick them I eat them as I pick them so they don't make it inside. Sweet peppers and hot peppers are going strong. Cukes also have not produced fruit yet but plenty of flowers. Tomatoes are plugging along but still green.

The herbs have been cropped back a couple times for fresh seasoning and drying some but they still march ahead like weeds (Italian and Greek oregano, chives, basil, parsley, Rosemary and stuff). Kinda sad that my Tyme died off but I'm pretty sure that I'll get over it.

Getting a good soaking rain tonight and tomorrow. Sometimes cloud bursts and sometimes a steady drizzle. The grow bags handle it just fine. They breathe and drain water as needed so the plants don't get over watered.

Sunflowers are about 5 feet tall. I don't know exactly what ones I planted (my Son started them, I think he picked maroon or red-ish or purple ones rather than the typical yellow ones) but they have not flowered yet. They are still growing leaves and stalks, Maybe in a few weeks or so they will make flowers and pop and attract pollinators.

The little deck outside my Son's room has a lush surrounding of greenery. Pull up a chair, light a cigar, and chill out while looking up at the stars.

That sounds nice, Bucky. I do the same thing.

I build a little campfire with wood from the trees I cut down last winter, light a cigar and look up at the stars. Chillin'

Harvested 16 cukes, bout 6 lbs of green beans, couple "cherry bomb" peppers and "only" a trash bag full of zucchini and squash.

I like the cherry bomb variety. It's a little spicier than a jalapeno. Some articles say it isn't quite as spicy as a jalapeno, but that hasn't been my experience with the couple I've eaten. Wife bought em at a mom n pop greenhouse.

Some of the pepper seeds we started either didn't germinate or died early on, so we filled in the gaps with some store bought. For example, we only got 3 of 12 serrano's--that was one of our worst outcomes...

Watered for about an hour and 40 min. Did a little extra today because were supposedly going back to drought conditions for the next 10 days. Idk if we are in a drought or not, but it doesn't rain very much and a lot of the grass is brown and crunchy.

That's the garden report.

Finally started picking a beefsteak tomato here and there. Cherry tomatoes are producing well though. So is the okra. Watermelons seem to be growing slower than grass in the desert.

Darn it, I can't wait for some ripe tomatoes.
I've got about 60 tomato plants to tend to., there are lots of green cherries and others are coming along.

It's so hot that our garlic took off all of its cloves.

I made a gallon and a half of tomato sauce from some of the funkier looking tomatoes we harvested. Been eating a lot of cucumber, onion, green pepper salad, cold can style.

Tell them garlics to put them cloves on…the taters got eyes

I harvested my garlic yesterday, luckily they still had their cloves on.
I'm seeing a few blushing cherry tomatoes now.
Peppers and eggplants have the wind at their back with the heat, significant growth, flowering, and some fruit forming.
Lettuce is pretty much done except for some stragglers, almost all want to reproduce now. Will start the fall crop indoors in early August.
Lot's of endive. Lot's of basil and parsley.
I got a late start on Summer squashes and cucumbers but they are growing fast, got some male flowers only on the Zucchini so far.
Started another run of beans with some new seed. The first run was a disaster, most of the seeds were crap.

Got our first tomatoes harvested. Red and orange, cherry.

Got some massive mortgage lifters that are green. Hope they ripen well.

Wife canned a bunch of blue lake beans, banana peppers and cucumbers while I was gone.

Second set of half runners is looking way better than the first.

Corn is about 8+ feet tall.

We gave my brother and giant bag of zucchini and squash, but there is still an entire Rubbermaid tote full of squash and a Rubbermaid tote full of zucchini. It's comical.

That's the garden report.

We also got our first tomato harvest. A whole one tomato. Tasted like accomplishment though.

294 ears of corn. Giving 3 dozen away, keeping a dozen fresh, canning the rest.

There are hundreds more that aren't quite ready...

This is the best our corn has been... Thanks for your help, Jake.

Picked a handful of jalapenos, a couple of cukes. Been picking peas and green beans too but they don't normally make it inside. I eat then while picking.

Toms heave plenty of blooms and green fruit but they are not ready for picking yet.

Noticed a (guestimate) 12" x 12" hornet's nest that they built on the roof overhang so I blasted it. I don't like killing things but please don't build a hornet nest 10 ft away above the deck off my Son's bedroom.

Still clipping back and harvesting some from the herbs. Fresh herbs for cooking and also drying them out future use. Once they get a foothold they grow like weeds.

Been canning like crazy. This evening I went out and bought 8 dozen pint jars and 5 dozen quart jars. A guy at Walmart was convinced that I'm making moonshine. I said no, we just have a really big garden this year. He said, "That's what I'd say too." Lol

Harvested a bunch of stuff from the garden. Wife keeps track of the numbers, but I know we're close to 400 zucchini/squash, well over 100 cukes, 294 ears of corn, lots of Blue Lake bush beans... We're still waiting on the majority of the tomatoes & corn to ripen.

FYI 242 ears of corn equals 16 quarts or 32 pints canned.

Over and out.

Holy crap. That's a huge harvest. You reap what you sow and it sounds like you sowed a ton and are reaping the benefits.

Mind sharing your address? If there is a zombie apocalypse, I'll come knocking at your door. I'll bring my own sleeping bag but I ain't gonna go to the van down by the river.

We're up to 617 ears harvested and shucked so far.

We've given away 52 ears and kept a dozen and a half to eat fresh.

The rest have had the silk removed, shredded off of the cob and either canned or blanched and frozen.

I'm really thankful for what we've gotten so far. Months ago I told Jake I wanted my corn to be good this year and it has been. Lots of work, but even if we don't get another ear of corn I think it was worth the effort.

I think Anthony and I estimated that'd I'd get 2,000 ears but I'm not sure we're going to hit that mark. Based on where we're at right now I'd say 1,000 to 1,250 for sure.

Picked a dozen ears of corn, cherry tomatoes, several big beefsteak tomatoes, 4 or 5 pints worth of green beans, 9 bell peppers, 11 zucchini/squash, 5 butternut squash, some cilantro & basil and a cantaloupe. Cantaloupe was great--lots of sugar. Got some watermelons that will be ready this week. One of the watermelons is pretty big; I think it's the Georgia Rattlesnake variety.

Wife made 2 quarts of salsa. The salsa is really good... I prepped the zucchini for her zucchini relish recipe. We'll make that, and can it, tomorrow evening.

Watered the garden for an hour.
