Anyone have experience with Onkyo hi-fi equipment? Looking at an A8190 integrated amp for $150 from a local seller. Said to be in excellent condition. Amp specs seem pretty clean but I have 0 experience with the brand and none of my friends have owned any of their products either.

I’ve heard a couple and they were good. That’s my vast experience.

Thanks Z.

Got pics of the amp. Sides and back look good but the seller didn't send close ups of the front. In the FB Marketplace pic, the front seemed a little nicked up with possible corrosion spots. My guess is that it's a bit f#*ked up and he doesn't want me to see it. Don't get the sense that he's being totally honest.

I'mma gonna pass.

Yeah, back in the late 80's Onkyo and Nakamichi were top of the line stuff. Do the Japanese do anything poorly? I think not.

I would buy it.

Last night I Googled Onkyo and read that one of the reasons the company went bankrupt was its refusal to lower their quality standards. However, when I read some reviews, commentators did say they noticed some differences in, at that time, new models. Power transformers and DAC (digital analog converter) were prime examples. Nonetheless, I decided that the amp would have been a lateral move so not gonna get it. Plus, it doesn’t have a remote so I’d have to get my fat butt out of the chair to adjust the volume. 🤣

No remote?

Deal breaker.
