Saquon Barkley had a really good chance to get the NFL single season rushing record. Eagles took him out last week after he broke 2,000 yards. I would have let him get more.

Now he's 101 yards away, going up against an inept Giants defense, and the Eagles are resting him for a "Super Bowl run".

Why not try to do both? There's no guarantee to win the SB, but the rushing record was damn near in the bag. I believe it was a mistake to pull him and not let him go for it. Now you're NOT getting the record, and the Super Bowl is damn sure not guaranteed.

Moneyball quants bs

There is a non-zero chance he will be injured breaking the record, and so computer models (and modern coaching strategy) says rest em. Better to have him healthy for the games that matter in terms of winning a SB.

Saquon himself probably agreed that it was best for the team’s interests. It’s why you see managers pull pitchers throwing perfect games in the seventh. It’s not about an individual athlete’s story anymore (unfortunately), rather, it’s about maximizing the team’s potential for success.

I see both sides. This strategy is lame in terms of creating sporting drama, but I’m for it if it helps my team win.

Couple things.

Pretty sure he had 30-31 carries last week, give him MORE?

As far as this week, I don’t think it changes their playoff position in any way, so why risk it? Philly hasn’t looked this balanced since they beat the 💩 out of the Cheatriots.

I’d sit him, and believe me I like Dickerson but he’s as bad as Mercury Morris was with the frickin Dolphins undefeated season crap. It’s like someone trying to remain relevant by their own actions after they are no longer actively doing it. Feels creepy. Also I like Sequad and think he deserves the shot, just don’t see it as the best team decision.

Yup, 31 to be exact. Sixty carries for 317 yards and 2 receptions the last two weeks. The Eagles are gonna depend heavily on him in the playoffs. Rushing record be damned, the guy deserves a rest before win or go home football starts.

1. Think of him as a piece of expensive, sophisticated, and necessary machinery (the player) that you cannot manufacture your most profitable product without (winning playoffs and the championship).Using it today is of no no value because you are not making the particular product that the machine is ordinarily used to make.

Why put more hours on the machine and take some unknown risk of breakdown (injury) that cannot be fixed during the most important production season of your manufacturing year (playoffs and championship)?

Thankfully, you would have other machines that can be used for now (second-string players), so you can save that sophisticated machine for production when you need to be absolutely certain it will work when it is most important to you?

2. Risk analysis only has two components: A. risk of the adverse event occuring; and the full consequences of that risk occuring. Even low risk x severity of consequences (chance of injury x severity) = risk

Conclusion: NOT worth the risk in some people's minds. YMMV

It's possible they asked him and he chose to sit.

the record would have always had an * anyway due to the 16 week vs 17 week schedule. had he done it in week 16 then that really ends the conversation but he didn't. He did do it with few carries though so there is that.

There probably wasn't any special riders in his contract with bonuses attached to warrant suiting him up.

And yes there would be an asterisk next to it as well.

Records were made to be broken and he just might surprise people next year. One thing for certain is its the NFC East. That is the hardest division to grind out in. I cannot believe the Giants front office were that complacent with regards to his abilities and his contract.
