NEW YORK (AP) — Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson were reinstated by baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred on Tuesday, making both eligible for the sport’s Hall of Fame after their careers were tarnished by sports gambling scandals.

Jackson should definitely be in. Rose Id say yes only because he admitted to it a couple years ago and he never threw a game. Says he only bet for his team or on other teams.

Yeah, because Pete would never lie. He swore up and down he never bet on baseball at all, until it was leaked and he wanted to sell another book. He took a lifetime ban, who takes that plea unless there’s even more damning evidence they promised to keep quiet if he took such plea?

They tarnished the game and deserve never to be reinstated.

I don't care either way about Joe.

Pete - he gambled, lied / denied that he did. Never apologized. Even iffin' he's on the ballot, I hope he doesn't get in.

One thing for sure, both men deserve to be in the HoF, based upon their on-the-field performance BUT, their (allegedly) shameful acts did them in.

I know Pete lied and would lie about throwing a game, I just don't see how it would have been beneficial to him. A single player not pitching can't change the outcome that much and his stats would have suffered which would have cost him money.

What I won't ever understand is why players who get caught using PEDs aren't banned from baseball for life. Plus they let their tainted records stand.

Heard this moring that baseball (Manfred?) has changed the rule now that a person is only banished until they are dead.

I get it. The thief doesn't make money off of a HOF induction.

Unsure if the surving family members would get a financial benefit out of this. Also don't know how I feel about that peice of the puzzle.

Trump said he was pardoning Rose for his federal tax crimes, and he criticized MLB for not having the legendary hitter in the Hall of Fame.
A better pardon than those done under the last POTUS.

“The Baseball Hall of Fame has a morality clause that forces voters to look past the field of play and at the person as an individual.”

Forget the gambling on the games and the lowlife loan sharks and drug dealers he was working with, his admitting to shagging very young girls but thinking they were 16 and not 14 doesn’t make him look good either. He hit the ball well and hustled, but off the field he wasn’t a very good human.
