These might help the new experience a little

Go to your profile and select 'edit settings', scroll down to 'standard page size' and select a more appropriate choice like 25 Entries. The default 5 Entries is ridiculous.

If you pick one of your azzhat buddies and send them a private message, the private message system will start to work for you. If you click your inbox before you make any contact (or receive a new message), it will just take you to your profile page

Seems like old messages have been purged

Visiting a forum thread[i] for the first time since the forum reset takes you to the very first post in the thread, even though the little return arrow says "go to newest". After you revisit the thread once, subsequent visits take you to the latest post in the thread when you hit the little return arrow
And with the private messages, the normal inbox button near the top of the page works as it should if a private message has taken place since the forum reset

Cool!

How about a, "mark forum/all posts read" to clean up the display of unread posts that are now marked new?

On the main forums page, on the right below the last forum (politics), there is a 'mark all forums read' button.

Return to forum without posting.

That works for all forums.

A little clarification for the 'standard page size' comment. Near the top of a forum page when you are logged in the is a string of choices. Choose 'My Account'. So go to your account and scroll down to find it.

Anyone getting activity stream notifications? I am only getting notifications for private messages. There is a n 'Activity Stream' slider button in 'My Account', Edit Settings. It will be useful if it works when someone quotes your post.

What web browser are you using?
My normal is firefox with adblocker ultimate. The forum has been often slow and has kicked out dozens of errors and boots me out into internet nowhere land.


Thought I would try Chrome (I have adblocker ultimate on this browser as well). Just this morning for five minutes or so it has been a completely different experience. Sub-forums open like they should and I have not gotten any errors even though I have intentionally been trying to bounce around from post to post or sub-forum to sub-forum.
So far it has been a night and day difference. Try Chrome if you're inclined to do so.

If this forum manages to survive, I could use Chrome for my visits while keeping my primary web use on Firefox.

Thanks for your helpful hints, Tiver...still would like to see dates of posts and PM's...the "x# days ago" doesn't help much and doesn't seem accurate...
wanted to find the date Jake offered up the Eiroa 20 Colorado cigars and the first post of that thread said "One month ago" which is not correct...

Yeah, Chrome on my phone seems to work the best. I tried Chrome on my desktop this morning and couldn't get in at all.
I used to use Firefox for the forum, but it doesn't work anymore.
Every time I get an error, I cut and paste it into a message to customer service, select "other" as the issue, and tell them the browser and operating system I'm using.

I guess I might have to retract my comments about Chrome. It seems the forum generally sucks regardless of browser.
