at our 45th wedding anniversary celebration here yesterday, one of our guests, the wife of our son's stepson, played pool with several of the guys. I was shocked at her skill level, as I've never seen a girl, other than a professional, play so well. It's estimated that there are 10 times as many men shooting pool compared to women, and that seems a bit high...

Funny thing about pool, I never learned it as a kid. My Mother was adamant I was not to visit the bowling alley pool tables or the local pool establishments/bars. Years later my Mother and Stepfather had a pool table in their house. My Mother and my Aunt Esther both RIP, easily beat everyone. They were raised in a small Iowa farming town before moving to California, there had to have been some interesting history I never heard about.

At the underwater archaeology site of Gran Carro di Bolsena in Aiola, Italy, divers found an ancient clay figurine pegged to be from the 9th or 10th century BC.
The ritualistic-looking item was discovered within what was once the residential area of the stilted town.
Experts hope the rudimentary statuette gives them a better understanding of Italian life in the Iron Age.
