To drag this tread even farther from the topic...

I'm very pleased to see Buckwheat use the correct "Harry S Truman" with no period after the "S".

Now class, who can tell me why there should be no period after the "S"?

Because "S" was his middle name?

I was at Truman Lake last week and Mac is going to hell I see.

I think all Buckwheat's threads get trounced.

"I was supposed to be named Harrison Shippe Truman, taking the middle name from my paternal grandfather. Others in my family wanted my middle name to be Solomon, taken from my maternal grandfather. But apparently no agreement could be reached and my name was recorded and stands simply as Harry S Truman."

Scholars have been offering re-interpretations of the "turn the other cheek" lesson from the Sermon on the Mount for decades.

The reason they thing that it must not be literal is because no nations, primarily Christian, or otherwise have been able to follow that advice.

One opinion is that in Jesus' time, the left hand was not used to strike (nor was it used for other useful things), and by offering the other cheek (after a presumable right handed slap across the left cheek), the attacker would not be able to strike again.

I think that theory is horsecrap.

I've already been to hell. I didn't like it and I don't plan on ever going back. The term we used to refer to hell, at the time, was "The NAG".

NAG being the Northern Arabian Gulf, of course.

There is truth to the rumors that it is really fuggin' hot there. It is hot and dry and miserable.

Oh, as a matter of fact, I think we were engaged in a 'preventive war' at the time... and it continues.

Hey, the best thing about Buckwheat's threads is that when they go off topic, he usually leads the way (see post #10).

That's being a good sport.

Hell, his original post was asking to go off on a tangent.
