...one of those days when you knew you should have never gotten out of bed? Today is one of those days. My wife and girls got home late last night from CA. We didn't get to sleep until around 2 am. We all woke up late, around 7 ( we have to be out of the house by 7:15). Running this late, we still had to get the baby ready and the 8 year old ready for school. Then, to top it off, I run out of gas a half mile from work. What a day. Can I take a mulligan?

I wish it was that easy. Actually, it is easier now in the civilian world than it was in the Navy, though. At least now I don't have to go to the doc for him to send me back home.

Au contraire - Do you still get paid if you go home? Without having to use 'sick leave'? If you get injured and have to miss work for awhile do they give you free "Convalescent leave"? Can you retire from this job and get paid for the rest of your life after 20 years?

Don't get me wrong... I haven't liked this crap for the entire 18+ yrs i've been doing it, but I certainly know where my bread is buttered, so to speak.

Transitioning to the civilian sector is going to be a lot less scary with an index check coming in.

*index check meaning the amount I am paid goes up with inflation over the years*

I don't get the index check I was hoing for, but after 13 years, they had to give me a pretty nice lump sum ($66k)that helped me take my family from the red well into the black, for a nice restart on life.

Granted, I do have to take sick time, but to me that is much better than having to drag my sorry, lame ass out of bed, drive 25 miles to see the doc, at the time they make my appointment for, just so the doc can say "yep, you're sick, go home. But first, take these papers to your command and let them have proof that I am letting you go home because you are sick. Good day.

Today was kind of like that...got up...had no electricity...decided to go for a short run and sprained my ankle. Electricity came back on but the water only got "warm". Left the barracks and remembered I was low on gas and when I got to the base to get gas (30 cents cheaper than out in town), the gas pumps were being replaced leaving me no time to get gas before having to drive into to work. I'm hoping that my computer isn't lying when it tells me that I've got 40 miles left on this tank. Oh yes, and to top that off...I left all of my money in my room. I'm looking forward to a good smoke and an adult beverage...oh crap...I forgot to buy that today too...

Jacking this thread....

MACS(SW)...I'm there with you my brother...I'm outta here in 88 days and I'll be cashing my "retainer" check to make those house payments and home improvements!

We now resume our regularly scheduled thread...

Tomorrow will be better...and I'm not in Iraq so even a bad day here is better than being there.
