Burg, it was cytology in school, now I'm in real estate, which is fine, most labs smell awefull. I'm glad I took those physics and chemistry courses though. Used properly, they explain everything from earthquakes to emotion in great detail.

i cannot agree more. science explains many things quite well....teaches observation...and i like observing.........(pretty open ended, is it not?)

Yup. Science is open ended because as observations change, so do the accompanying facts and theories. It's honest. Having honesty fairly beaten into me as kid growing up Baptist, I rather like science, as it suits my moral training. Anytime a belief, practice, system, or whatever, becomes frozen in dogma it slowly becomes obsolete and is eventually left behind. Not that religions, cultures, laws, etc., don't change over time, they all do, but they're slow and resistant to change. Science is on the move, ready for change, and is therefore very usefull. If ethical experts (jurists) would become a bit more scientific and less dogmatic our social world could improve by leaps and bounds.

On the other hand maybe it's good, rich, and fulfills some unseen function to have frilly, silly, antiquated social structures and dogmas around. Better than living on planet Microsoft. In the final analysis, variety trumps mono-culture I guess.

ahhh, young skywalker, there must be balance to the force!

no balance, this would be one of those BAD sci-fi movies with a very "clean" outlook, and we all wear white and big brother would watch us, mind control perhaps. i like the balance of fast-paced change and stubborn tradition. keeps it real.

I defer to your wise spewing sensei Burg. A proper helping of both Cotton Mather/Carrie Nation and Alan Turing/Annie Sprinkles doth a rich and rewarding life make.
