Sorry to disagree with you boys, but Quint is da coolest

"250 men went into the water" That scene where they're sittin' around the table and Quint is telling them about the Indianapolis has to be one of the best ever.

And what's even better is that only Shaw and Speilberg knew the tale to be told. Speilberg wanted the genuine reactions of the other actors when hearing Quint's tale of utter horror....... It worked.
