There's hundreds of web pages out there on homebrewing. I'm sure it's only a matter of time and Dave will run across this thread.
I brewed beer for about 5 years and had a blast. I just decided I needed the storage space more than I needed space for my hobby and I sold my gear. It's fun, but be prepared to be a clean freak and depending on how fancy you want to get and how you want to store your beer, be prepared to give up some space.
My hobby evolved from brewing with a 30 qt. stock pot and plastic buckets ans hundreds of beer bottles to weldless kettles, conical fermenters, Cornelius kegs, co2 distribution system and my pride and joy...a beer fridge/tapper.
Trust me when I say this: I was better with the buckets then I ever was with the expensive gear. I did not spend the time it took, and living in Southern California, I could not get the temperatures where I needed them to ferment properly. It was too hot in the garage. I had no cool place in the house. My beer was fermenting out in about 2 - 3 days. It should have taken way longer. Then, I had to store the gear because I deployed with an aircraft carrier and was gone for 8 months, I came back and just had no interest.
There you go. My brewing history. But...don't let me discourage you. Have fun and if you like it, be ready to sink some bucks into your gear and beer.
