I've got a few questions pertaining to box pressed cigars. Maybe Jon@CAO can help me out. First, is the ring gauge measured before or after the cigars are box pressed? For example, would a 50 r.g. box pressed cigar technically be smaller than a 50 r.g. round cigar. Also, does box pressing do anything more than just change the feel and appearance? Does it do anything for the burn or taste?

it's the same size. the corners are farther apart and the straight sides are closer together. box pressing only affects appearance.

The last I knew, the measurements were made prior to the cigars being pressed. This may be wrong, but I do notice many box-pressed cigars seem significantly thinner than they're labeled dimensions.

What's said above is correct. It's also been my experience that firmly pressed cigars will burn more slowly and cooler than those left round.

It's much easier to wrap your lips around a rounded object vs. a squared one...

I think box pressed smoked a whole bunch better than round. I like the fact that flat sided cigars don't roll off the table when you set them down. They have a neet feel . I don't recall ever having a box pressed cigar run.

I've found the box pressed torpedo to be the best of both worlds. The tapered end fits nicely in your mouth and the square body is pleasing to the fingers and stays put when I set it on the table. -WER

I like the box pressed cigars. They generally burn nice and even. Long smoking too! I recently had a Perdomo 2 that was pressed square. Nice burn, tasty! I do not like the flat cigars that are pressed to the point they appear to have been sat on by Anna Nicole.

To answer your question Marla, no he never did answer me. But looking back at that post, I realize that I definitely was drinking too much coffee. I don't really care anymore. Oh well...happy smoking!!

i have had occasional draw problems with boxpressed smokes and like to smoke them slightly drier than round smokes for that reason. [shrugs nonchalantly]
