Well I had to get your attention with my subject line. It really isnt Tweety & Sylvester of course but My version "Polo & Owen". They are quite a pair. They play and sometimes act like they are fighting but they actually respect each other and nobody ever gets hurt. Polo is the Amazon & Owen my tabby. Cats & Birds can get along! Mag

You haven't finished that beer on the counter yet?

I can't believe your cat plays with a bird. My cat kills anything that she sees....well, anything her size or less.

As you can see they are so used to each other that they are more interested in my camera than each other.Polo is about 35 yrs old owen is 3. I think that Owen only likes THIS bird. Other birds he would attack.

Mag, I used to have a Blue and Gold Macaw (Pepper) and he loved to play with cats, dogs and other birds! However, they generally did not want to play with Pepper!

Great pic, they must get along pretty damn well!

I hate to think of the shambles the house would become if those two got together with my dog ... I'm guessing that a wrecking ball wouldn't do more damage than would come from putting the three together ... and since your two get on quite well, I guess you have a clear idea of who I think the trouble-maker would be ... LOL

A scene from Christmas Vacation involving a dog and a squirrel comes to mind...

good lord mag how long do birds live for? Is that for real, do they only live that long as pets or do they live a long life in the wild too?

dhofer22, Most breeds of Parrots have long lifespans. My Amazon should live to about 70 yrs old ! Im 43 so if he goes to 70 I'll be 78. I hope I go to his funeral and not him to mine. Hehehe Mag

I believe the San Diego Zoo had a Cockatoo that lived to be over 100 years! Macaws live to be close to 100!

Mag, what kind of Amazon is it?

We groomed a 63 year old Double Yellow Headed last month.

Birds rule the roost! My 2 dogs 75lbs and 55lbs will play with my birds but only under the birds rules.

BMW, Polo is a Lilac Crown Amazon. We adopted him 10 years ago. A very old woman who owned him had to go to a rest home and they dont allow birds there. I wasnt to excited about the Idea at the time. He has really grown on me and is a great pet! Mag

Hey Mag, I love all the animals! And the fact that your wife is a zookeeper. Very cool! My "adoptive family" (for lack of a better term--long story) were a physician and a microbiologist, and we had a veritable zoo during those early years. I always wanted to become a zoologist when I grew up, and I still love animals. Now I just have a cat, but she's great. Wouldn't stand for a parrot in the house, though. Anyway, keep up the fun pix.

Charlie,Blue and Gold Macaws are beautiful birds. That bird could probably do some serious damage to your other pets if he wanted to. The jaw strength of a Macaw is amazing. Any hookbill type of bird has a strong jaw. Mag

That's great they get along. We have two cats and a rat that leave each other alone. They don't exactly play, but there is respect from the cats. They both tried to stick their noses and paws in the rat's cage and got bit. They give "Oreo" a wide berth.
