ST. LOUIS COUNTY: Man is bitten by cobra he keeps as pet

01/01/2006

A man from south St. Louis County was bitten by a cobra on Saturday as he was trying to feed the creature, which he kept as a pet.

He was rushed to St. Anthony's Medical Center. St. Louis County police used its helicopter to airlift cobra anti-venom from the St. Louis Zoo to the hospital.

Police and the hospital declined to make public the name of the bite victim or his condition. Police did not provide additional information about the incident.

I'd call this a clear case of natural selection at work.

I'd have to agree Heather. Why would anyone keep a venomous snake as a pet?

He's an idiot. No, that'd be insulting to us idiots, he's a dumbass.

*In my best Red Forman voice*

"Ya know why that snake bit you, dude? 'Cause yer a dumbass!"

Heather, you're making me spit small amounts of coffee as I read this hahaha. Natural selection indeed. Darwin was right on.

If I was the cobra, I'd bite the stupid **** to for keeping me as a pet.

I've known several people who kept poisonous snakes in their homes.........they were all dumbasses.

Not implying that ALL poisonous snake owners are dumbasses....but perhaps keeping deadly slithery things in their home has a certain appeal to certain types.

I went on a call where this guy was bitten between the eyes by a rattlesnake. He had captured it and had no previous poblems handling the snake. However,he used to handle it in the morning when snakes are a little lethargic. He thought the snake was used to him. He was wrong. Soon after we arrived,he started having difficulty breathing, as his throat started to close off. The PM's had to do a tracheotomy on him and rush him off to the hospital. I heard he survived but barely. X
