I learned in a personal e-mail this morning, that our friend smithbw and his unit have been called to action in the middle east. Please think of him and all others in our nations armed forces and include them in any prayers that you offer in the days ahead, Above all, whatever your thoughts and feelings of the correctness of the course of action our country is embarked on, be supportive of the individuals whose lives are on the line ... their actions, like those who've gone before them, are what has given each of us the freedoms and liberties we too often take for granted.

In what I think is an eerie coincidence, my son told me today that for each of the past 3 nights, he's had extremely vivid dreams that he was back with his unit in the Navy ... his dreams began on the night smithbw got the call ... the eerie part is that he had no knowledge of the callup until he'd told me of his dreams ... to add to the eeriness, had he stayed in, he'd be part of the forces over there right now and to his mother's great disbelief, is kicking himself for having not re-upped ...

I still don't think we realize how much the world changed Sep 11. I think those events have prepared us to secure the world for peace and freedom, to accept that historic moment as a challenge to lead. We are headed toward conflicts that will test our values more than our arms. It is easy to draw blood. It is harder to bind the wounds.
