About the sweater'dor...I have the 32qt. box and am wondering about how to 'layer' the cigars?

Is there a particular recommendation for stacking, layering, etc...?

And, is it absolutely necessary to use the Spanish cedar or can it be left out?

i don't put ceder in the sweaterbox, but it won't hurt to add some on the bottom.

as far as layers not sure what you mean, but i just dump the cigars, in with cello on, and stir them every so often.

cello on to menimize cross breeding.

I've also taken some cedar and laid it against the sides as much as possible to maximize it's qualities to even out the humidity ... plus, I have also become far more of a "cello-on" guy because I've found it doesn't retard the humidification as much as I'd feared and does offer a lot of protection against damage to the wrapper that you can otherwise often incur.

Rick, I am seldom under humidified, sometimes a little over. I have split a couple of wrappers, due to this every now and then. I've noticed that I've never had a split wrap on a cigar thats been in cello. Have you noticed that yourself? And, I use distilled water. Do you recommend the humidifcation solutions? I would appreciate your input. I use the common wooden humidors. 75-100 count.

Mag ... the advantage the solution offers is that the PG half of the solution tends to regulate the rate of evaporation of the distilled water half ... I had a tendency to be a bit over-humiditied too, until I added the PG to the mix ... and as I mentioned above, I was a cello-off guy for decades, but in the course of the past year, began experimenting and found cello-on does not retard humidifcation as much as I'd always thought it did and that it does decrease the damage to the wrappers ... I've not taken cello off except to cut and light a cigar in quite some time now ...

PG also retards mold and fungus, even if you just use it occasionally.

I'm glad you are taking the cello off to cut and light your cigars now Steve.

(BTW, that humidor I picked up needed very little prep time. Must be higher humidity in your neck of the woods. It stabilized at 72% in 1 day.)

I like to use some Spanish Cedar in the tup-dore. I worry if the temp-humidity ratio gets wacky, then it would condense on the plastic inside the tupperdore. The cedar in conjunction with PG will absorb the moisture before allowing condensation.

Maybe its an unfounded worry, but I took the precaution anyway.

RICK: I mean, I have enough cigars that they more than cover the bottom and it is necessary to stack them ontop of each other.

I have several sectioned, plastic cigar box inserts that I'm using to 'layer' them...just didn't know if that was a better idea than just laying them ontop of one another...skin to skin...

In the Plastic Target boxes, agree with Rick, just stir em up on occassion! I do leave the cello on in the Target SweaterDor's but remove the cello for all of my wooden humidors!!!!! Rayder, I learned long ago that cello doesn't smoke well, so I make sure and remove it!
