When charging a humidifier, we are told to use distilled water only. Would taking filtered water that comes from a Brita water pitcher, and then boiling that water work for distilled water?

I believe distilling removes more impurities then a brita and boiling would. IMHO, at less than 2 bucks a gallon why bother!

I've always used the water from my Pur water filter that is attached to my faucet and it does a fine job...IMHO of course

I prefer to charge myself with distilled Gin!!

Any water would work, but, all waters other than distilled water contain impurities, and or minerals that eat away at the material inside your humidifiers. That's why the manufacturer suggests distilled water only or a 50/50 solution of propylene glycol and distilled water.

I asked the question because I used water from my Brita on a new humidifier that came with my new humidor, and about a week later there was some mold growing in it. Threw it out and got a new one. This time, used water from the Brita and boiled it. Haven't seen any mold on any cigars yet. Most of them are still in wrappers. Thanks for the advise..

maybe a dollor five after tax's... well worth the money to save your Cigars from Pos. Mold or any other bact. that may be in your water.. and Boiled and cooled water can contaminate fast then just water out of the faucet.. someone send him to the cigarnexus to read on the info of setting up and maintaining your Dor' that site is really helpfull or drop me an email and i'll give you the web url for it

ohhh yes and that is good also, buy a cheap bottle of Gin, and store you Gar's with that another alternative
50/50 and your set!! got that Idea from a friend of mine, sellnmony where did you hear of this way?
and I only use it in my ammo can Humidor's that I store mass amounts of Cigars in.. all other is 50/50 propylene glycol (found at Pharmacy) and Distilled water...

i used boiled water once way back when and it got moldy rather quickly , it never happened with distilled thought , stick with distilled

I believe that the minerals in regular water will also harm the porosity of the cedar in your humidor. I stick to distilled water and have always had good luck.

I get a gallon of distilled H20 for less than a buck. Organics in most waters will crap-up your humidifying unit, your box and cigars. I get steam distilled. We drink it everyday, too. I never thought I'd see the day I'd be paying for drinking H20. That's all I drink now. The water's so foul thes days. I'm gettin' old...

By now you get the point, use distilled. It's cheap, available and saves you from disappointment. Also, boiling water will kill bacteria, but it will not get rid of impurities that have an evaporation point higher than 212 degrees. In fact, if there are impurites such as this, it will actually increase the concentration since some of the water is not boiled off. So, bottom line: Don't do it.

Just what is distilled water? It is boiled water to remove harmful impurities. But really, use that damn cheap store brand distilled water. My gallon has lasted for a year!

its not the boiled water itself it the steam from the water boiling thats collected that distilled
