I just smoked a Quixote. I had to try this cigar just based on the name and the pictures. "Double maduro" sounds soooo good. I enjoyed it but I wouldn't call it a favorite. It was relatively well made, smooth, and burned nicely but the flavor didn't quite appeal to me.

I will enjoy smoking the other four I got but I was hoping for more based on the fact that I was salivating over the term "double maduro" for weeks.

Anyone else try these? Opinions?

I just had one last week upon the recomendation of my cigar shop. I was pleased by its taste and think that for a cigar at that price it is fairly good. I would like to try the Escudero next. Another excellent cig imho is the Marorga High Octane Parejo Trios, being my fav every day cig.

I dunno what double maduro means but I like the Quixote a lot. Didn't like the Glorioso.

I believe double maduro means the binder and wrapper are maduro.

Good smoke for the money. Double maduro means that the wrapper usually has been fermented longer than the standard maduro. Sometimes they are also called oscuro wrappers and can be almost black such as an Onyx Reserve. HdM double maddies are a wonderful example, as well. They're IMHO some of the best and priced reasonably.

great smoke for the $. probably one of the best values. the only complaint is the heft of the cigar, i like a heavy cigar, but at these prices i can't complain.

The 1st one of these I tried was a sample given out at the RTDA. I was not impressed by it. It simply lacked taste. The one I had last night the La Mancha was superb. An XLNT cigar for the money. X

Maybe I can shed some light on the topic of a "double maduro." In theory, a 'double maduro' would mean a maduro binder surrounded by a maduro wrapper.

What I learned from speaking to various tobacco growers in Nicaragua and Honduras was that this does not really translate well in the 'practical world.' The reason being that a maduro leaf is fairly thick - works great for a wrapper, but use it for a binder and you're looking at combustion problems.

As such, I believe what you're looking at in the case of a SP 'Double Maduro' is a true maduro wrapper and a connecticut seed binder that has been fermented longer to be "DARKER," however, it would not be considered a true "MADURO" leaf as we've come to know maduro as.

To understand that, you have to understand that different leaves are used for different parts of the cigar partly because of the burn properties.
