Question: I've had the Savinelli Nicaraguan Reserve. It was an excellent cigar for me. It was not a maduro but rather an EMS, that is, medium brown color. Lot 96875 is described as "The Savinelli Nicaraguan Reserve offers a unique combination of Habano-seed and Corojo wrapper to create a one of a kind maduro" so is this a different cigar than the one I tried? I don't usually like maduros so I'm shy of bidding on this lot.

Reply to Tandem: While the wrapper is slightly darker than EMS, it is not maduro. It's extremely unique, a wrapper I've never seen used for any other cigar. It's a hybrid of Nicaraguan Habana 2000 and Corojo. To the best of my knowledge, the Savinelli Nicaraguan is only available in this wrapper. The cigar is a puro, with all tobaccos grown in Nicaragua. I don't believe you'll find any difference between the boxed variety you've had and the bundles available at CBid.

Saturday, I picked up a bundle of Savinelli Nicaraguan coronas at CBid for $16.00. It was probably the best deal I've picked up here since I snatched four 5-packs of Bohemian North Beach Red Label Corojo for $8.00 each.

Smoked one of these Friday night. Thought it was pretty good. Burned and tasted great.... not bad for $1.20 each...

I just got my first bundle today. They are the type that I was expecting, reddish and not really a maduro in shading. This looks like a truly excellent purchase except that I had one problem.

I've tried only one so I musn't generalize, but it had a very tight draw. What have you other guys found with your purchases? Will there be a lot like that?

Tandem,they may be too wet. Let them rest for about a week then try again. If the draw is still too tight,try dry boxing them for a few days or keeping them at about 65% humidity for a few weeks. X

No, they are not a Fuente. The Savinelli ELR is a Fuente. The Savinelli Nic Reserve is made by Henry "Kiki" Berger who also makes 5 Vegas, El Mejor, Cupido, Don Kiki, Adolphus, and many private labels.

I have not had a draw problem with any of Kiki's cigars. If these Savinelli Nicaraguans seem tight, do allow them to rest and stabilize. Often when cigars are graded as seconds, because of wrapper color or irregularity, they are sold bereft of aging. There's little point in the manufacturer using valuable wearhouse space to age cigars which will be sold quite cheaply.
When all cigars are rolled, they are quite damp, and when they are shipped, the RH is increased so when they reach the retailer they aren't dried out. Because these are an incredible value, I assume that CBid is turning the inventory very rapidly. When we (the consumer) gets them, they are still quite damp and in need of some resting time. Put them down for at least 30 days, and I think you'll be amazed at how the draw improves.

Man, these seconds are selling for the price of many firsts! They're up to 37 bux for the torps. Any comments? Is this an overbid?

A box of torpedo firsts retails for about $80.00. I have found no difference between the firsts and these seconds. At $37.00, a bundle of torps is a good buy.

Steve*R, thanks for the original tip last spring. You may remember that my first corona had somewhat of a bad draw, see above, and that I would give you a report later. So here it is.

It's summer in Chicago the humidity stays up around 63-78% so, admittedly, I can't really get them much drier. I've now smoked about half of them and the draw problem did continue with about half of those. But it was easy to overcome and I'm very happy with the purchase. Since spring I bought three more bundles of the corona grande size because they came at a better price point considering the size.

In response to ikonoklast7, Savinelli is not an el cheapo. It's a great price on a very fine cigar with some imperfections.

And Steve*R, you might try the Don Kiki Reserve 2000. They show similarities to the Savinelli though substantially weaker in flavor and much lower in price.
