I think Bush should send an engraved copy of this to Chirac and tell him, if the French want any oil from Iraq, they can try to come and get some after we move in...

Like I said before, he's no Hitler and should not be treated as such, ie. no appeasement out of fear. And no I'm not French, but I wouldn't be ashamed if I was.

Defacing a recognized symbol like Uncle Sam is distasteful and sad, wanting to dominate Iraq and all oil they have access to is moronic, hence my posting of the definition.

I prefer a definition of victory (one way or another), not hegemony (domination)...

heheh, yeah, actually it was really funny. You were saying how you didn't approve of domination and I associated you with a dominatrix! All tongue in cheek of course (not that there's anything wrong with that)

You know Chirs brings up an interesting point. We see posts about the burning of the flag and how one girl turned away from it during the pledge at her sporting event. I think we are all in agreement that it is pretty distatfull to desecrate that symbol. Yet here Robby you desecrate the symbol of Uncle Sam. Please tell me why that is ok.

Nice try Frenchie; He's our "funky unkie" He's often portrayed in some manor or another with humor. Are you really comparing this post with a FOOL who turns her back when the National Anthem is played? Or a TRATOR who burns an American Flag??

"Uncle Sam is the cartoon embodiment of the government of the United States of America, a character who appeared in newspapers and magazines beginning in the first part of the 19th century. The commonly accepted version of his origin, or at least the best explanation anyone's been able to supply, is that he was modelled after Samuel Wilson, a meat purveyor to the United States army during the War of 1812. Known as "Uncle Sam," Wilson put his initials on his goods. The initials U.S. were also taken to stand for United States. Over the years Uncle Sam evolved into a tall, white-haired man with beard, sporting patriotic colors and a top hat. The most common modern image can be traced to his depiction by James Montgomery Flagg from 1916, for a military recruitment poster calling "I Want YOU For the U.S. Army."
