No, no bathroom humor here...sorry. I bought a new 'dor and the seasoning procedures I've read here on the Forum and the flyer that came with the 'dor say two different things. One says I have to wipe the interior of the 'dor down with a distilled water sponge, the other says don't do it. I certainly don't want to make a $300 mistake. Any advice?

Hey Egg,
Don't do it.
Put a shotglass of distilled water in the bottom of the humidor. The evaporation will safly humidify the wood of your humidor after a few days. If it is a large humidor, a larger glass will work.

I used to wipe the interior till I found out it was a no-no...

Charge the humidifier and/or put a glass of water in humi and let it rest for a few days till it reaches 65 - 70 %. Then add 'gars... Works for me..

Interesting to note (CB are ya listening?) that wiping it down was the first step in the seasoning instructions I got from CB.

Wiping won't ruin it, but it will raise the grain of the lining wood making it a little rougher to the touch. An old woodworker's trick is to lightly wet the wood and then sand it again after drying to make it extra smooth prior to finishing. If you don't want to raise the grain, don't wet it.

I agree with X. Take your time. I seasoned mine using only the humidifier it came with. Took about 4-5 days, and it holds % like a champ. I would've died then my sis-in-law woulda kilt me if I ruined that nice Daniel Marshall she gave me.

I've always wiped to condition. Never had a problem. Even wiped the ploomidoor.

I always wipe my humidors down, and I always recommend that others do the same. I have yet to experience a problem with any of my humidors.

Well it's a question of: Why would you wipe the interior with distilled water in the first place? To hasten the seasoning process so you can put your cigars in sooner. I say, let the cedar soak up moisture at it's own pace. Why do I say that? I just feel that when it comes to wood and moisture, slower is better. That's an opinion, my 2 cents.
