If you have an analog hygrometer and the glass is cracked will that affect if it reads the correctly?

no more then a watch without a crystal. the spring behind the face of the analog hygrometer is what senses the humidity.

The glass protects the face ... and eventually it will rust.

The rust may also keep the hand from moving properly.

After I took such care to calibrate it, I crack it pressing it to the sticky pad in the lid. What luck.

I have a question along these lines; attaching the analog hygrometer to my new 'dor requires putting the sticky disc on the back of the hygrom...that's where (I assume) it senses humidity from, through a series of holes in a circle around the back...doesn't covering them up with a sticky pad affect its operation? Not to mention jamming the back side of the hygrometer into the lid.

Looks like I'm headed to buy me a digital.

there are enough holes in the back to let the moisture get to the do hickey that senses the moisture and moves the needle. i have one digital and i just lay it on top of the cigars for an hour or so and move it from box to box. after a while you will know what box leaks enough air that it requires adding distilled water more often then a good tight box, which is always good to have.

i guess that phrase will past muster after e-chick refered to the launch of a rocket as being ejaculated.

If your handy enough or feel comfortable doing it go to your local hardware store and get a hole saw that is the same size as the inside ring of your hygro. Find a good spot, usually the lid and mount yout hygro from the outside so you can read it without opening the lid. I have a humi that I will be doing this to shortly, maybe today and I will post some pics! Or if you want to send me an e-mail and I`ll send ya a step bye step with pics.
