Yesterday (Sunday)I picked up a box of La Hoja Selecta Choix Supreme (25 ct) for $25.00. What a deal!!

I think people passed them by because the promotional copy used by the Cbid folks may be a little dated. These are a new stronger blend. The original blend had a Connecticut wrapper with Dominican, Mexican, and Brazilian filler. This version has a darker, fuller bodied Ecuador wrapper, Connecticut broadleaf binder, and filler from the Dominican, Ecuador, and Brazil.

Ernie Carillo, the maker of La Gloria Cuban, El Rico Habano, La Hoja Selecta, El Credito, and others originally marketed La Hoja Selectas as a transitional cigar from the very mild cigars of the boom, but changed the blend about three years ago to one that's very close in strength to La Gloria Cubana.

They are a good smoke for a cheap price. Do not even confuse them with LaGloria's.

Actually, I've had some recent boxes of La Hoja Selectas that I preferred to LGC. LGC En Cedros are among my favorites and the Series R are generally exceptional, but Ernie Carillo struggled for awhile producing some cigars that were less than momentous smokes. In fact, I think some LGCs were just awful.

La Hoja's rank high on my list of sleeper cigars. Really nice taste and exceptional construction for the price.

I haven't smoked a La Hoja in a long time, they always had a decent rep. But IMHO the La Gloria Cubana Serie R is one of the better smokes on the maket today...

I, certainly, agree. A box of Series R #4, even if you're lucky at CBid will run you $75 to $85. It's nice to be able to pick up a box of La Hoja Selecta, 6 x 50, for $25.00. I prefer that to a similarly priced, bundled, El Don deCrappo.

You are right in comparing pricing of La Hoya to El Don de Crapos and the various animal cigars! No comparison on the quality of La Hoya when stacked up against the other so called low end cigars!

Serie R is one of my favorite cigars and by the way I smoked a La Hoya Corona yesterday and it was a damn nice smoke.

I have smoked three La Hoya's since I made my last post regarding them and I will have to say that these are a really nice cigar and when you factor in the price---wow!

At this moment I'm enjoying a La Hoja Selecta Palais Royals that I got last summer. Seven months in the box has done wonders for this stick. A real decent smoke.

I have dug out a couple of La Hoja Selectas and smoked one today...nice cigar, and I must say that I like this one, so let me try a couple of more to verify my opinon, Burns evenly and is a medium strength, wish it were a little more robust.

Had the Chateau Sov. Liked it a lot.
