I'm going out with a friend of mine tomorrow night for his 21st B-day, just wondering if anyone could give me a quick suggestion of a decent cigar to pick up for him. Its been tough remembering what he did & didn't like, because we're usually drunk when we're smoking cigars together, but I do remember he didn't like a Sinatra that we had recently (Corona, I think). I know he enjoyed some Cubans we had up in Canada last summer (Don Diego Tubo, a Romeo y Julieta & an Upmann Robusto, if my memory serves me right). I can't afford alot, but its a fairly good occassion so I may splurge a little. So if anyone has any suggestions, let me know, probably looking in the $10-15 each range, but would consider others if they come highly recommended.

Thanks for the help. If I could ask one other thing, and please excuse my ignorance (I'm kind of new, plus sick plus tired) what does the PAN and PAM stand for? I know I've seen them, at I know I know what they stand for, but I'll be damned if I can remember.

PAM is what you spray on a PAN so the eggs don't stick.

Otherwise, it's Padron Anniversary - Maduro or Natural.

Overrated ... IMHO ... I have had about a dozen or so (all gifted to me), and I just can't seem to understand what is so good about them. Each one that I've had ... the wrapper cracked and peeled off, and it was hard to draw. I'll never buy one ...

Find him (if you can) an Arturo Fuente Anejo (anything) ... or a Best Seller, Work of Art, Between the Lines, Untold Story, 858 Sun Grown, etc.

Any of those would really 'knock his socks' off!

Dated a PAM once but couldn't be had for $10-$15. As I remember it was more like dinner and 5 drinks. But I digress.

Ashton VSG, PAM, PAN, are all good suggestions.

Better yet, take him to the tobacconists before you go out and let him pick his own cigar. I just love a trip to the tobacconists, the aroma is soothing to me!

Thanks for the help. I stopped by the cigar shop earlier & ended up buying more for myself to try than I did for him, but hey I deserve it too, no one got be anything for my 21st birthday, so I might as well celebrate too. I ended up with some Olivo Maduros, CAO L'Annis, and some Davidoff 2000's (alledgly you can only get them 2 places in Ohio, and that was one of them, plus I was told that they were excellent, so I guess I'll found out). They were out of the PANs/PAMs, so I was unable to get those. And the guy talked me out of the Ashtons for some reason. I'm pretty sure I ended up with at least a few decent smokes. Thanks again for your guys help.

GardnerFTW,

Where in Oh did you get the old Davidoff? A buddy has been looking for them and can't seem to find any.

Thanks,
Matt

GardnerFTW,

I forgot, please email me at kyhuntsmanat yahoo dotcom. You can't post other places of businesses here and I don't want you to break the rules.

Thanks,
Matt

Gardner - Not sure where you're from in Ohio, but thought I'd make you aware of a few upcoming events. May 15th in Cinci, a CAO tasting (hoagie and I will be there)
May 30th in Dayton, The Wharf presents their new private label (rolled by Indian Tabac) -- I'll probably be there and hopefully hoagie and DanD too.

I'm closer to Akron/Cleveland, so Cincy & Dayton are quite a haul, so I probably won't make it to either of those events. I tend not to make it past Columbus except on rare occasions. But if for some reason I'm heading farther south, I'll let you know. Plus I'll probably be fairly busy the next couple of weeks.
