A pain reliever like Vicodin.

Oxycontin is a time release painkiller. It is usually 10 mg. of codiene that releases over a 12 hour period.
This way it keeps a steady, but small dose of codiene in the system for a long period. If you take a normal percocet or vicodin tab it usually contains 5 mg. of codiene and 325 mg. of tylenol or aspirin but it only lasts effectively for a couple hours. Then you need to take another one.

There was an article, I believe back East, that oxycontin was becoming the number one drug of abuse. Apparentley, abusers were taking the tablets and crushing them up and then snorting the powder to get an initial rush of codiene. Damn, I bet that burns...Arrggg...69

You got that right Q. Even worse is at least half a percent and more is being paid for by taxpayers and sold on the street. A $0 copay generates 100% profit. Average Oxy dealers make about $20,000 per week. If they are lazy that is.

Oxycontin is a schedule 2 narcotic that is equivalent to heroin in a pill. It is a great pain medication for SEVERE conditions like end stage cancer and such but is highly addictive. Yes you are right, kids crush it up and snort it to circumvent the time-release aspect of it. We have had several deaths here in Philadelphia last year due to its abuse.

I've taken it for back pain, it helps a lot!! Only had two because I know it's strong stuff!! I took my second one ever today, and I don't feel the pain anymore... and that is good!!
