Smoked a Fuente today, sent as part of a trade, and I need help identifying.

About a 46-50 ring gauge, 4.5-5 inches long, with a cedar sleeve and a black ribbon at the foot. Surely someone knows?

Any help much appreciated!

the Chateau Fuente is 4.5x50 and comes in cedat. The sungrown version has black ribbon, the regular has green.

So how was it?

Dunno what cedat is, I meant to say it comes in cedar. My typing is awful today.

I've never tried one, but I have three in the humi at home waiting for me. I almost brought one with me today for my evening smoke, but instead decided on an O Ole maduro. I know I made a good choice, but I really gotta try one of those Fuentes soon.

One of my treasures are the 23 no make that 22 Cuban Beicoso Sun Grown Fuente's I have sitting next to my handful of Opus Xs and Anejos. (tough to keep my hands off em) Gotta try that little baby sun grown sometime

As much as I believe that the 858SG is Fuente's best sun-grown ... they are pricey and nearly impossible to find.

I have found that all of the Fuente Sun-Grown's (Double Chateau, Chateau Fuente, Royal Salute and also the Cuban Belicoso) to be outstanding runner-ups to the 858SG ... are very reasonably priced, and easy to find most of the time.

Excellent cigars ...

I have always been a little lukewarm on Fuente products. Good, no doubt, but just not my favorite. But the sungrowns are out of this world. I wonder how they'd age if I was a better man...

I split a box of 858 Sungrowns with jd1. I think we both have mixed feelings about being so cooperative! ha ha. I miss that other half of a box...just kidding, bro.

I know what you mean; I was down to 2; bro got me 5 and I got 5 from that "other site."

Cwil and I are also doing a box split and should arrive any day. If they have any left in June and you are up for it; we should go for another. Till then, let me know when you smoke your last one.

Oh and agree on the other Fuente sungrowns; awesome smokes and hopefully those resting Belis I have will ripe for the picking in about 3-4 months. Right now, they are just a little "young" if that's possible. I guess I've just been smoking too many more fuller bodied sungrowns. I did notice that the chateaus and doubles I had that were aged more were totally different than the belis i just got. In due time...in due time...

jdrabinski - I agree, I'm lukewarn on fuente except for Opus and the SGs. The regular hemi's, and regular line don't do much for me, but I'm waiting to try some anejos and I have a Don Carlos that is about ready to test. The Montesino SGs are good as well, but not as good as the AF SGs.

Try the Flor de Ybor City No. 85, which is rolled with an Ecuadorian Sun Grown natural wrapper. It's 6 x 47, they come in bundles of 20 ... and can be had for around $50 ... manufactured by Tabacalera A. Fuente y Compania.

... the Maduros aren't to shabby either!

Robby,

Since you've been patient, how does the flavor profile change with aging? I have four 858s aging, promised to sit until next March, and wonder how things might change. Does the peppery flavor mellow a bit? I am not the hugest fan of peppery flavors, though it is good on these sungrowns...still, a mellower spiciness is what I am hoping for. Let me know if you have thoughts.

The presmoke aroma on the 858SGs is far and away the best aroma I've every smelled off a cigar. Completely unreal.

Ditto all of the above comments about the AF SGs. Awesome smokes all of them. To me the Cuban Beli SG seems to be a bit more full bodied than the others, and the 858SGs are a real treasure. I am hoarding the 4 858SGs I have left.
