BeatDragon --- in not liking anything from 'PerDONTmo' ... does that include the ones that they rolled for C.A.O ... say, the CAO '1968 L'Anniversaire 1998' Cameroon, for example?

MAYBE!

Ok I lied, no, it would not include those items.

I sit corrected.

Bought a box from a competitor of a stick aclled "Legion".... mistake!!! Really loosly rolled and the ony way you knew it wasn't just air you were sucking was the nasty bitterness of the smoke... Gave the rest away.
Others:
La Vieja Habana Torpedo
Torano Box Pressed Selection (all his others are great, though)

I've had good and bad in many lines.
Dare I say that some CAO coronas really pissed me off (way too tight!!!). I've had Sinatras churchills that truly suck but most of the robustos and My ways have been fine.

Lots talk down Hinds, but I bought a box of Thomas Hinds Honduran and have yet to have a bad cigar from the box,(not great, but not bad). Love the 5 Vegas Double coronas but the other sizes have not impressed. Paid a ridiculous price ($4/cigar) for a Perdomo "the Cigar" and have not really enjoyed one (flavor ok, construction horrible!!!) and am hoping age may save these.

Every once in a while you hear a story about a bad experience with an Opus X, although that is a rarity or a fake Opus. I had one Opus Double Corona that was just fair for a 3 dollar cigar, but all the other Opuses I've had were great. (Now, I just stay away from the Double Corona's).

Guess there's good and bad among many brands. And watch out for fakes. The better brands are just more consistently good. The lesser ones are less consistently good. One of the intriguing things about cigars is the variability and variety of choices.

Again, we get back to tastes. The Thomas Hinds Honduran I don't find a terribly bad cigar (never tried the vintage). Believe it or not, I have found the Maria Mancini fairly tasteless to me. The Santa Rosa is not what I would consider a "go to" cigar but smokeable to me. I have on occasion simply tossed the Evelio, Montague, and the Hoja de Nic. And, as posted earler, I have never found a Filipino cigar I have liked.

My 2 cents. I don't mind bidding like crazy on cheapies. I try my damndest to find the $1 and under cigar that doesn't suck. Unfortunately, in my search, I have found the turds:
*Sinatra (tried everything to make 'em taste better)
*Cacique Crystal Turdos (they look cool, taste like s41t)
*Wall Street (long skinny s41t)
*MC Cusano (I could only smoke half of one, can't even look at the other 4 from the 5 pack without gagging)
*Bolivar Habana (I tried one from a fair source, tasted so bad I thought it was a fake. Tried a second from a reliable source, same taste.)
*Bad Frogs (Thanks rick!)
*Evilio (Not horrible but bad enough)
* Anything you can buy at Walgreens or Rite Aid.

rayder, you can get a roll of perdomo's for a buck or less per stick. And many people really like them with some age on them.

Thanks, I have a whole bunch of them stashed away. A number of them just reached their peak. Best sub-buck cigar around.

I'll take this opportunity to ask for some civility, if you please. When people post to this board and don't like a cigar there seems to be the need to swear at it instead of describing its qualities and what it is similar to. As if the level of criticism is an expression of one's good taste.

Let's face it. Most people in the world think that cigars smell bad. If you're waiting for a consensus to deicide what is good you'll wait forever. As the Russian's say "In taste and colors there are no comrades". Everybody's olefactory machine and palate works a little differently. There may be some different chemistry at work, in a literal sense.

So here's a couple from my list that I don't like but with an effort to be helpful:

Ghurka - well balanced classic tobacco taste. There are none of the modern style nuances. Strong top notes favored the center of my nose. To me it was quite strong. So far so good but also they make me queasy. If given another I would, probably, try not to smoke it. And what justifies those prices?

Macanudo - beautifully and consistently constructed with an elegant feel to the wrapper. There is an open and gentle bouquet which is far to weak for me. There are other mild cigars that I do like but I would pass up these even at lower prices.

Torñao Exodus 59 Silver – Corona – I did not like this cigar. It was smooth and open with balanced fullness. The promotion says it is a vintage variety which would account for the smoothness. The first inch was a bit too mild then, despite its medium strength, it tended to make me sick. This repeated itself three times. I’m sure others would like it a lot.

"When people post to this board and don't like a cigar there seems to be the need to swear at it instead of describing its qualities and what it is similar to."

Tandem, I re-read this thread, and I have to disagree. There was one post where someone described several cigars as "sucking". I did not see a need to swear anywhere, unless you consider saying a cigar sucks as swearing. I consider this as a valid description. i.e., brand X sucks. Were you referring to this thread or others????

Robby,

No I wasn't referring to this thread which was posted just to get a simple comment on what people found to be disappointing cigars. But in general we're looking for some description of what's for sale, especially if it looks like a bargain.

So if someone asks, as many have, "What's the story with the Lone Wolves?", to answer "they suck" is OK as a brief synopsis but doesn't help a guy to understand what they're like. I ended up buying ten of them, help!

I just won a bid on the Don Asa's. Would you like to know what they're like or just that I thought they were xxx##!

I will give just about any stick its fair due...

BUT, I have really disliked all the Thomas Hind smokes that I have had the unfortunate opportunity to sample. Generally a unattractive, bitter smoke.

I have 5 or so left that I will gladly send to anyone who wants them.

...just my 2cents...

I was really trying to be cheap, and got a five pack of Burma petite coronas for 1 dollar. They were the worst cigars that I have ever had. I don't know if all dry cured cigars are that bad, but if they are then we are all doomed.

El Rico Habana Habana Clubs are the worst hand rolled that I have ever had. Thought the first one was a fluke, but no, numbers two through four were as bad. Tasted like cigarette tobacco. Did not even keep the bands.

But then I've never had an El Rico Habano Hanbano Club that wasn't good! I've also tried the larger Corona Suprema from them and found it tasty also - well contructed, good draw and excellent burn and flavor.

Dog rockets for me would be Thomas Hinds and anything from Chatily, and Bohemian Reds
