Have any of you smoked these stogies? I received one from robby on a trade, and Chris(Cwilhelmi) gave me one.

I'm not sure what size they were, but one was bigger than a churchill, and the other may have been a churchill.

These two smokes were excellent! After smoking the second one tonight, I knew it wasnt a fluke.

So I went to a competing site and bought a bundle. Have any of you tried these? I recommend them. Good flavor, real nice draw, lots of creamy smoke, burned pretty even. Priced right!

Only thing was it wouldnt hold much more than 1/2 inch of ash. But it didnt matter, it was real good... :>)

Connies are a frequently maligned cigar, but they're actually not a bad smoke ... for what they are.

These are made by Villazon and are seconds from their various lines ... consequently, all Connies are not created equal ... while all cigars vary somewhat from one size to another, Connies more than any other I've tried cannot be judged for good or bad by sampling only one size ... they require experimentation to learn which you like and which you don't ...

The "bigger than a churchill" cigar you mention is most likely a #14 ... a #14 maduro was, coincidentally, the first Connie that I ever tried too ... I'd not expected much and was pleasantly surprised, kept a few in the small everydaydor and put the rest into the large agethemforawhiledor ... and forgot about them ... literally.

It was about 9 months before I got around to them again and I was blown away by the plume that had developed on them ... the appearance and the taste evoked what I'd call "hint of sugared doughnut" ... man, those were tasty ... and they're large enough to be a 4 or 5 inning cigar when I go to watch my sons play ball ...

I did find, though, that I don't care much for the robusto size ... toro or double corona (it's # is on the tip of my typing finger, but not quite coming to mind ... don't you just HATE it when that happens?) is also a pretty damn good smoke and one I have a couple of bundles aging ... I've got some robustos hanging around too ... I'll bag a couple up and put your name on it Mag and let you see what you think ...

Got a bundle of the #99 or #9 I believe. Robusto size. They are supposed to be seconds so I tell myself they are. Incredible smokes IMHO. Even though medium-bodied they have tons of smoke and flavor. At $22/20, they are definitely priced right.

The number 84 is rarely ever available. Some vendors refer to it as a 73 torpedo.

Great comparison chart Steve. Mine were the #9 maduro and IMHO what makes these so good is that they tend to be very well aged; at least mine are. The bundle came wrapped in cello in the shape of a pyramid and the cello was very very yellow in color which is an indication of age or someone peed on my cigars. However, no "urinal" flavor profile exists, so I'm guessing it's the great shelf aging.

Maybe I've been 'jaded' by all the great cigars out there, but for me, life is just to short to smoke 'cheap' cigars.

Amen to that. How anyone can rave about a average to below average cigar is beyond me.

These have always been hit or miss. For me a few hits with mostly misses. I don't buy these anymore. X

LMAO I just sent a B-Day Bomb out to 2 CLUD memebers and along with some other sticks included one of these (no thats not the best I sent) to get their opinion. I have had a few and each one has been good. Maybe cause I let mine sit in the humi or maybe I got lucky. Rob

The ones I have I rate high, and I have all the best cigars money can buy... They're inexpensive, and there is a difference between a bargin cigar and a cheap cigar! We all like bargins.

IMHO this is a bargain cigar not a cheap cigar. Concur with Robby. To each their own, but I like my Consuegra #9 maduros. I've tossed quite a few "name" brand cigars that cost much more than the Consuegra that I considered dog rockets.

I likes em too - good cigar and good value. I like 9 and 16's. The only downside is they are inconsistent. If you get a great bundle then you scored. Occassionally you'll get some with poor construction - and those wind up as yard gars. At only a buck a stick it's a pretty good gamble.

As I've written elsewhere, my personal belief is that most Villazon cigars have a similar taste profile. The distinctions between brands tend to be quite minor. Under the guidance of Estelo Padron, there is a certain sameness about most of the cigars. Even the inexpensive Belinda hints of the Hoyo Estelo 75th Anniversary Chest. If you like Villazon cigars...Punch, ERDM, FdA, BF, Belinda, Hoyo, Excalibur, etc., Consuegras are a great value. Connie 72M and the ERDM robusto zavalla are usually indistinguishable by taste. When I want a Villazon flavor profile, which, frankly, is rare these days, I see no sense in buying firsts when flavor profile brand to brand is so close and the Consuegras are so cheap.

Today, as I mowed the lawn, I asked my wife to grab any stick for me out of my den humidor. She handed me an Ashton VSG sorcerer. I really enjoyed mowing the lawn today. I heartily agree that buying and smoking marginal cigars is fatuous. But, before you spend premium money on Villazon firsts, try a Consuegra or two, to see if they satisfy.

There are lots of young guys on these boards. Some of them look for bargain smokes cause they cant afford premiums on a daily basis. I like to give some of them recommendations.

Thats why its a good post. This may not be a smoke YOU enjoy, but I think it is obvious that others like them. If you notice, I've posted more on cheaper smokes that are good, than premiums.

Most already know which premiums are good, but the cheaper jems are harder to find. Thats what my post is all about.

I like smokes like this for work, or when doing yardwork. I get interupted many times and have to leave my smoke unattended and relight my smoke sometimes a few times.

I'm not going to treat a premium smoke like this. These are perfect for this situation, and so are a few other less expensive, but decent smokes.

I can afford ANY smokes I want, ANY. I just dont waste my money. A very good or great smoke deserves more attention to fully enjoy it, and I usually enjoy a drink with my finer smokes. I cant do that at work.

Thank you for the info on the Connies.
While some folks can't fathom why a person would buy "cheap" sticks, I am still learning what I like and dislike, so I want to try a bunch of different ones. I know I like Baccarat, which some folks deem a "cheapie" and just got some Don Asa sticks, which I also liked, which are among the "cheapies".
So I think that I will have to put Connies next on my list. 🙂

Now don't get me wrong, I have found a few brands that I like, such as AVO, CAO, Arturo Fuente and romeo y julieta. Oh and the Sherpa I smoked tonight. 🙂

I agree with your statement about the sticks for work or yardwork. There are ones that I save for my unwind times. The times when I can relax and enjoy the cigar.
