Ok Second time in a row I have sent Clud Bombs and the Lady at the Post Office said I wasn't supposed to send cigars by mail! But then she did it? What gives anyone have any thoughts yes I'm still a rookie and I hope this is posted ok here ??? Rob

Why tell them what they are?
They should only ask if you have fragile, perishables or hazardous material.
Oh, you insured them. That would make a difference.

Funny though, if you are not supposed to send them in the mail, then I am curious as to why my package from AVO and Torano arrived in the US mail and not UPS.

The first time I shipped cigars to anyone was my first trade a week ago.

The lady knew I had cigars, cuz I told her and she even helped me find a box big enough to accomodate the Baccarat Cigars chest I sent my trade items in.

There ARE some states where you can't give tobacco as a promotional item over the mail, and I don't know how this affects trades and gift sending. AVO overcomes this by charging you for the shipping ($2) if you get one of the cigars free from one of their internet promotions. I haven't received my Torano in the mail yet, so I don't know how they do it.

I insured the box pass that just got shipped out. The contents were described as collectibles. Not streching the truth there!

Funny this should come up, My first trade I went in and stated that I hade perishables and then proceeded to ask for insurance. The lady stated to me I cannot put insurance on food. It took me a second and then told her that not all perishables are food and that what I had in the box had a value that I felt needed insurance. No problems after that. Also how does Cbid or CI ship their stuff to us if they are not allowed according to the post office lady. Maybe they have a deal with the USPS or connections. 🙂 she must have been new or either dumb. I will hope for the best.

Torano sends them in a shipping tube with styrofoam popcorn. The cigar is in a plastic bag in the shipping popcorn. I got mine today.
A Torano Exodus 1959 silver edition. A dandy looking cigar.
And the mailman delivered it.
It even says that Torano is a cigar company on the tube.

Did you do it through that offer on Torano's website?

If so, then I'm glad! I was hoping it'd be a Exodus Silver or Signature that would come...since I don't really like the Exodus '59.

I think I read on here before where someone's cigar package was refused by the post office. I think they had to ship it from another post office. That brings up an interesting question....

If you arent supposed to mail cigars, what happens if you insure them and they come up missing? Can you collect the insurance for something that wasnt supposed to be mailed in the first place?

I have never heard that " Not suppose to mail Cigars" thats a bunch of (fertalizer) *S* I ship out on the average of 12-15 packages a day and my Post Office knows full well what I'm shipping out Heck the Post Master chats with me all the time about different Cigars.. Now there is a problem with shipping them out of the country to include Canada. There you will run into problems . But there is always a way around Most Problems if you just reaserch alittle. I don't ship out side the USA because I don't want the hassle but as far as with in the country I think some one was sniffing alittle to much of the Postal Glue. LMAO..TinMan

I lie if they ask me if I'm sending cigars. After standing in line as long as I do putting up with people in line with no clue, I just want to get out of their without going nuts. Still the cheapest way to send a package.

I read somewhere before that you can receive and mail cigars/cigarettes as long as they are for personal use only. Some states require residents to report the purchase of mail order cigarettes so that taxes can be collected. From what I understand, this does not apply to cigars and other tobacco products.

I, personally, have never had any problems mailing them. However, I've never told them what I was mailing. Most of the guys in my post office wouldnt care. However, there is this one older guy working there that is a pr*ck. I could definitely see this guy refusing to mail something just because he wasnt in a good mood that day.

I say fragile and they stamp it. I have never seen a line at either PO I use.

Wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that by Federal law it is illegal for minors to have tobacco? Technically, I guess if you were mailing them to a minor under the age of 18 (or is it 21, now) you would be breaking the law (although I don't know how they would know that)........just wondering..........

The woman at the PO being a fine example of a Federal employee who "thinks" she knows the law as opposed to "knowing" she knows the law. I deal with the Fed all the time, and there's no shortage of "thinkers."

I don't know what's more sad - the fact they don't know the law, or the fact they work for the entity that made up the law.

He knew the Lady, said he had no idea other than people putting "things" in them but since he knew me he had no problem, and he said She probably had seen me before which is why she took it ?! Both UPS and USPS employees received a memo regarding the shipping of tobacco products to New York. Apparently the NY legislature enacted legislation which prohibits the mail order/common carrier delivery of cigarettes within the state. It appears that alot of confusion was engendered by the memo. I've already been challenged when I tried to ship cigars from one state to another, but neither of which is New York.

If you falsely declare the contents, insurance for the lost parcel can be problematic, if the parcel is ultimately recovered.

Same story here in FL. They always ask blah, blah, perishables, blah, blah. I just say "no" and that's the end of the story. Don't sweat it. I usually don't insure but will get a delivery confirmation. Just for peace of mind.
