I've got a question for everyone...

How many of you smoke an entire Cigar after lighting it ONLY ONCE. I know this is the correct way, strive to do it, yet can rarely get through an entire cigar on one light.

I wish i could blame it on over humidification but the reality is faulty puffing, getting distracted then over puffing which eventually smothers it. My Herf buddy on the other hand, RARELY lights a cigar more than once and has the George Burns puff down to a science.

Depends on the cigar and to a lesser degree what I am doing when I am smoking.

I would guess and say that 60% of my cigars stay lit after the initial lighting. 15% may take two or three relights during the smoke. 10% 4-5 lights, 10% 5-7 and the remaining 5% too many to count.

Last night I had a Tony Bohorani (sp) Bahai, I must have lit that P.O.S. 15 times to get it burned half way thru, so I threw it in the garden.

Whenever I smoke, I light it up, of course, and begin enjoying.

If I ever have to take a flame to it after that, it's only to correct uneven burn.

One light about 85% of the time. I can only remember one in the last couple of weeks that I had to light multiple times. Like RDC I threw the POS out.

Had a few that I let sit almost 10 minutes and with a few puffs it was going good. I hate to relight.

I guess most of the times, 99%, I only light once. I do purge the cigar about half way through it. The only time I relite it's if I am talking too much and not puffing enough, but that almost never happens. I like to smoke my cigars from begining till my fingers burn, LOL

I heard David Letterman say once in an interview that he NEVER relit a cigar. When asked, he said they were $25 per stick and went through about 10 per day on an average day.

That interview always stuck in my mind with a healthy dose of jealousy. lol

I too HATE to relight them but 80% of the time it's my fault and not the cigar.

I suppose it depends on whether you are considering a relight only when the cigar goes out, or for corrections as well. As far as actually going out, I know it's happened, but was too long ago to remember what it was. As far as relighting for burn corrections, that is nearly every cigar. As long as it's not too horrendous, I don't mind it. Just part of the ritual. The only cigars I can think of that I didn't have to touch at all are the Hemmingway Signature, and the Hoja Yellowband figurado (!). The Torano Signatures could be left alone, but I just have to mess with stuff.

I try to puff here and there but occasionally some really good conversation will distract me.

Now that I have my RH in the correct ballpark, I rarely have to relight. However, if I am playing cards, go pee pee, or am drunk...I have to relight. But I don't relight unless I have about 3 inches left. Any less than that, it isn't worth it to me.

I am not counting a burn correction either, that is necessary on most cigars (even most good ones) and is indeed part of the ritual.
I meant either a complete relight or an "almost out" relight.

Hardly ever. Unless I had a "nature break". But for the most part I smoke 'em to the nub on the first light.

About 15% of the time I have to relight, depending usually on how much ash I allow to hang. Ash hangs, it stays lit. I hit the stick regularly, but not over short intervals, because it'll get hot. Relighting also makes it hot, of course, as it gets shorter. It's a balancing act. I probably relight the most in the vehicle, as I do keep driving priority 1 and babysitting the cigar second. Those are usually lawn mowing sticks anyway. At home, on the deck, at the lake, around the campfire - I virtually never relight, except for corrected burn.

PS - Great question! Something to think about besides "cello on or cello off."

Once I light it up, I finish it. I've never tried it, but there is a product call Cigar Savor for exactly this problem. Here's c-bid's description -- Never again waste an unfinished cigar with this baby. It allows you to save half-smoked cigars by snuffing out and re-shaping the tip of the cigar. It also keeps it humidor-fresh so you can smoke it later. How many times have you had to cut short your enjoyment of a cigar to duck into a non-smoking establishment? A useful accessory to own.

It depends on what I'm doin. If I'm relaxing with a Stogie, then never, unless there is a problem with the cigar.

If I'm doing yard work, well, it could be a couple or three times. But I dont smoke premiums unless they get full attention.

I smoke perdomo fresh rolled's in the yard. They are good & cheap, and they seem to keep a good flavor on relights...
