Is this just another name for PG 50/50? I noticed there is an auction for Cigar Juice here and the liquid has a dark color to it. I was also gifted something like this a year ago and didn't know what to do with it. I made my own 50/50 solution with PG from the drugstore and it is clear with no color. Is this darker liquid something different?

Thx

From the CI site:
"Cigar Juice stabilizes your humidifier at 70% relative humidity. The 50% mixture of propylene glycol and 50% water"

I mix mine from walgreens PG and it's clear and odorless. BTW, how much are you guys paying for your PG? I paid 9.75 for a pint special ordered and in the next day, so even w/ distilled water at 99c per gallon it's still a decent savings.

BTW, anyone seen a ratio table for mixing volume of PG to H2O for exact 50/50?
thanks -j

E, you are sooooooooooooooooo bad!

Thank you for the fantasy.

The real ansewer is:

Cigar juice is what drips out of the side of your mouth when you hold a stick in your mouth too long and your hands are too busy to take it out.

Damm, that still sounds like something E would say.

I guess Marla brings the pigness out in me this Friday night. lol

I don't know why, but the words juice, drips, mouth, busy hands and take it out, take on new meaning when Marla posts. IMHO

I mix 8 ozs of PG to 7 ozs of distilled water to get a perfect 65% humidity in my low rh humdifier. In my cooleradors and my big humidor I use 8 ozs to 8 ozs and it always gives 70% +- 1%.

I got my PG at a compounding pharmacy. Two liters for $18.75. Should last a looong time.
As far as a 50/50 mix, that's easy. It's a 1:1 ratio. I mixed 500cc PG with 500cc of H2o to make 1 ltr of solution.

When mixing PG solution with water it does not matter what size you use it goes by weight. PG solution weighs more than water so you will get an un-even mixture doing 8oz to 80z. But in such a small mixture like that its not going to make such a significant difference that you would notice otherwise. Be careful when mixing drums of PG solution 🙂

While we're on the topic 'Cigar Juice' (marketed in bottles and put in your humidor).... For those mixing your own you have enough to use whenever you want. How often do you add juice to your credo? Do you just add distilled water and maybe rinse and juice it once or twice a year or what?

you better calibrate your hygrometers.

the 8 to 7 and the 8 to 8 or whatever changes constantly as the distilled water evaporates and if you don't add some distilled water back to the humidifier, you will end up with 100% PG. that's 8 to nothing, in favor of PG.

Typically a 50/50 solution of propylene glycol and distilled water is used. When making smaller quantities a simple volume measurement can be used.

For the real sticklers in the crowd, when making larger solutions please keep in mind that propylene glycol is slightly heavier than water. Propylene Glycol is 8.61 pounds per gallon while water is 8.34 pounds per gallon. Therefore mixing 1 gallon of Propylene Glycol with 1 Gallon of water will give a 51% solution of propylene glycol.

^ To Activate or Charge your humidor, after that, just add distilled water every 4 - 6 weeks as needed to increase the humidity level.

I cant find a pharmacy that carries the PPG.
The one place where I actually got to talk to someone, they told me it is not for say with out a prescription.
I have tried pharmacies at the various grocery stores, Wally World, Eckerd, Walgreen and even some specialty pharmacies. Where next???

You should be able to buy PG over the counter. It's not a federal prescription drug. A lot of pharmacists don't know that they carry it or what it is (some think it's a lubricant and point you to the condoms, others to the optical solutions). Walgreens did get it for me so I'd think they could get it for you. Try going to the pharmacist and saying you'd like to special order a pint of it. Tell them what you're using it for if they ask (since it's in everything I don't know why they may be paranoid, but whatever). If you still can't get some I'll check the label of mine...that should at least help for walgreens.

Long Drugs, or most any pharmacist will special order it for you. It is used by pharmacist as a humectant and solvent. I paid around $8.00 for 473ml (one pint).

SP - I've read that in a bunch of differetn places (even where I bought my gallon og PG) I always thought a gallon was a gallon was a gallon. Whether or not it is heavier is not relevant when talking about mixing liquids. A gallon is measuerd by fluid ounces. "An ounce is a unit of weight that is NOT equal to a fluid ounce which is a measure of volume". Maybe I'm wrong with this but One gallon of PG takes of the same "volume" as one gallon of water right?. Just like if I had a gallon of molton lead, it would take up the same volume as one gallon of water. Now, going with that thought, lets say they were selling PG by the pound. If you bought one pound of PG soulution and one pound of water, wouldn't you have less PG solution since it is denser than water? Going back to the "molten lead" scenario, if I had a pound of molten lead and a pound of water, wouldn't I have less lead than water???? I'm so confused 🙂
