I believe the typical first response to a thread like this is:

"Send them to me. I'll smoke them and find out."

Now that we got that out of the way maybe someone can give you a real answer RJ.

The final test is in the tasting. Been there and been burnt. Upon lighting, you'll know soon enough if it's a ISOM puro.

Have you checked out the CA website? It has a pretty good counterfeit section that goes into a lot of detail - stuff like "the fleur de lise (sp?) should show clear detail of every curve" - it's hard to tell from the pic whether the band is blurry or the picture. If the band is clear and sharp, then they look good to me, but others have seen a lot more of these than I have. One idea is to smoke one - if you like it then don't worry about it but if you still want to know - send the band to someone like smithbw - he'll tell you if the band is legit...

Monte #2, a great smoke! I have 1 left myself. The CA website has quite a few counterfeit pics for comparision. I'd look there... :>)

Wow! This is a "tough call"...

Following are the rules that I use when checking for a counterfeit. I don’t know if they are consistent with CA or not…I learned them while volunteering my time at the local shop.

First things first - Smell it! It should smell "Well Different" to say the least. A connoisseur friend of mine says that is should smell “Like Manure”. However, you want to describe the smell it is far different than a Nic or Dom.

Second - Check for the triple cap. Maybe this should be first and I know it is on a lot of peoples list. Three different caps should be defined. Even with a torpedo or bellicose.

Third - Look Closely at the band ensure that there is no deterioration in the Montecristo emblem It should be clear and crisp. The Emblem is the hardest part to copy. I often use a magnifying glass – No Old Age Jokes Allowed….

Fourth - It appears that you have a box. They should all be the "consitent – “Same Color" shade may vary on aging but they should be basically the same.

Fifth - Construction - the wrappers should be consistent and not too veiny.

Lastly - Fire it up! You will know right away as the "Havana Aroma and Twang" is distinct.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

id say theyre not, looked at some of my monte's, under the arch part of the emblem there should be some lil things stickin out, (those are all technical terms)

What smithbw said. Also what bigjordo said, if the thingies aren't on the emblem, they're fake. It's hard to tell from your photo. Always check your thingies. LOL

X is laughing, but my experience is that a fresh barnyard smell is always a very good sign in a cigar, no kidding.

What X and LLT and BMW and Smithbw and Usahog sez...LMAO!

Fire it up man! Fire it up and if it ain't got that twang it's not the real thang. Check the ash too although I've been reminded that after a recent penguin diary mystery stick review that the ash can vary from the very dark almost black to speckled and mottled gray.

"Manure" may not sound like a good descriptor, but it is right on. A very spicy, darnyard smell is soooo good!
