fonseca. suarez. JDN70. montecristo grande (non-isom). helix (nat). sinatra. even the mild ashton classic. even montegue!

i've found a lot of peppery goodness in all of the above cigars. but that's about the end of the list. i've tried a plethora of new cigars lately, and i'm grateful for the BOTLs who have shared their faves with me in bombs, PIFs and trades.

but i just can't find DA HEAT!

i can find full strength, but the "full flavored peppery spice" seems to be missing from an awful lot of highly regarded cigars.

thing is, when i pick up an unbanded "dog rocket" i seem to find PLENTY of great big beautiful peppery spice.

what am i doing wrong, guys? where are the cigars that "pack a punch" in terms of that mouth-watering, make-ya-cry, open-your-sinuses peppery heat?

helix and fonseca and sinatra and ashton -- all are mild-medium CTSH cigars that have a decent amount of spice to them. am i looking in the wrong direction?

but then i have an old ratty emilio reyes darker-wrapped torpedo, and BOOM! there it is!

should i be looking at lighter cigars? darker?

should i be looking for "yard gars" and "dog rockets" to find that kind of peppery taste?

ANY suggestions would be EXTREMELY appreciated. at this point, i don't want to bid on anything for fear of getting yet another five pack with good reviews and ratings but NO HEAT. 😞

help a brother find his way?

IMO, Tony,.....Criollo and SunGrown wrappers pack the most punch. It seems, that many people categorize Maduro as "strong" or "full", but I find them smooth and sweet, when I find a good maduro.

Secondly, I really can't tell you what a good cigar is for you. I CAN, however, keep bombin ya' until I see the servers @ CBid shut-down, cause your review was 4 1/2 million words long.

Montecristo H2000, CAO Criollo, Fuente Short Story, and Opus are the most peppery smokes I have ever had.

Anyone have a Dark Shark they can send Cavallo's way? Hehehe

*laugh* are ya saying you think i'm chatty, dave? 🙂

you know, i wondered about the dark shark -- are they spiced up/peppery? i saw them going today at $4 for a fiver, but the closing date may have been off several days still.

i hope i didn't come off as complaining -- you've bombed the bajesus out of me, and i've been enjoying the smokes you and a couple other bros have sent my way. absolutely.

i guess it's just that my cigar budget, such as it is, is SO tight that i want to make the best choices i can here in the Quest For Ultimate Heat. 🙂

i also hear so much about the primo (and expensive and rare) stuff you Big Guys like a lot, but that's just out of my league right now. maybe i'll get lucky some day and snag a fiver of fonseca or pick up the odd monte grande locally, but for the most part i really have to set my sight on much more inexpensive and readily available cigars.

the tabacalera cubana is probably my idea of the PERFECT cigar. but with gomez looking at jailtime, i'm gonna have to swallow hard and cross that off my list. i did actually find one place online that carries them by the box, but again, too rich for my blood.

so-- another question. what IS the best way to try out cigars without spending a fortune? trades? fivers? local shopping for singles?

Never too chatty, and you aren't complaining at all. I surf these waters so tough some nights, that a nice, long read is definitely appreciated....esp. with your writing skills. Whew!
I hear ya' on the "ISO:cheapest, strongest smoke", but I really don't know one, and if I still had a Dark Shark, it would be your's but I may have put it in a troop bag (with snicker on face). Nothin like bein the last soldier to recieve, and get a churchill Dark Shark. Yummmmmmmmmmeeeeeey!LOL

Tony, a mini-Smelly Bomb with extra pepper will be launched manana.

I watched a friend of mine smoke a Bolivar Petit Corona (ISOM) and I thought he was going to die from all the flavor and spice coming off of it. No small dude either, he easily weighs a good 300+.

For domestics, I have heard the "The Cigar" by Perdomo is pretty full bodied and full of flavor but have never smoked one myself.

What DMV said. Try the El Ricos in maduro as well. I found the Antanos you mentioned spicy. Each has their own tastes...

What about Cuban Parejo sungrown? VSG? Torano Trib?

Try the LFD Chisel maduro. It pretty much tastes like your smokin peppercorns.

Torano Tribs are GREAT! but not all that spicy. I'd recommend the Reserva Selecta for spice so far from that line, but I haven't burnt the 1959 Exodus Silver yet!

Oh forgot to add the Nic. Selection.

Exodus: Filler from Honduras and Nicaragua. Honduras is famous for spicy tobacco, and Nicaragua is for the strength.

Exodus Silver: Criollo wrapper with Honduras filler.

1916: Cameroon wrappers are spicy.

Nic. Selection: Ecuadoran Sumatran, peppery/spicy wrapper. TTT uses Ecuadoran Sumatran, if I'm not mistaken.

So if you want to find a spicy cigar, look for cigars that has Honduran filler, and the specific wrapper that you like.
