I've put together the NW box pass and I have not been involved in a box pass before. I want to send the box out tomorrow, so I need to know the propper way to pack the cigars.

I think I have the packaging down fine; I'm putting the cigars inside ziploc freezer baggies, and put those into a tupperdor. But my main question is do you put packing peanuts in the tupperdor so the cigars don't go rattling all around or do you just put in a hygrometer and the cigars? What's common practice for this type of setup?

From what I saw of Bassdudes amazing boxpass, the cigars are, like you said, inside bags and tupperdors.....but then any loose space is where the peanuts go. It would seem that a couple sheets of bubble wrap that are used for trades, could be layed on top to soften any blow the box may take.

Bubble-wrap is an amzing thing, and inexpensive compared to damaged cigars.

I have a ton of bubble-wrap, humidifiers, foam, PG solution, water-pillows, climmax beads......and lots of other stuff that would keep the cigars nicer. Do you need any of this stuff? I am here to help, as well as participate in this great pass.

Thanks smelly. I've got lots of bubble wrap and lots of peanuts. I think the packages will be secure. It just seems odd, to me, that you would put a hygrometer in with the peanuts.

I'm trying my darndest to get this box out the door tomorrow. Do you know if flyboy will be handing off to you and you to turnberry?

Yep. Flyboy to me. Me to Turnberry. That works out perfectly, and if it doesn't, I can do some drivin to pick-up and drop-off, to make things easier. I know this pass is gonna be a great one!

A Hygrometer? Why?

It would need to be a digital, wouldn't it? By feel, I think everyone participating in the pass could tell if any smokes were drying out.....and with the proper humidification, they wouldn't need a hygro anyway. Maybe I am totally wrong though.....I am still learning too.

Sorry, not hygrometer, meant humidifier.

Cigars are bagged which is the main thing but a humidification source of some kind inside the box is a worthwhile thing to do anyway I would think.

Bubble wrap is a much better medium
to prevent "rattling". If you use peanuts
make sure they are packed tight.

If it turns out to be like most box passes, there will be no room for packing peanuts after the first few stops. Your box will soon be bustin at the seams with gars and other various items. Certainly a site to behold.

You've got some good advice now.......may I suggest:

"Humid-Eze" Humidity Disks or sticks. One inside each of the large ziplocks will do the trick and the liquid will not leak out onto the gars.

Thom - what everyone else said - if you have enough, just put a layer of buble wrap on the bottom of the tuperdor, then enough layers on top of the gars to fill the tup so there's no movement (and if you can use one of the disposable humidifiers, that's best) - then put foam, bubble around the tup/etc. to fill the box - it's good to have a lot of extra room that you need to fill w/ bubble wrap (or peanuts if needed, but peanuts are so messy....) b/c like rich said - it WILL get full!!! : )

Geez. Just when I thought I was ready to send this sucker too. It looks like it will take a little more time to do it right. And I'd rather do it right the first time than have someone else fixing my work. I'm glad I asked for more advice. I really think I'm going to need a bigger box.
