Are you interested in a box pass, but the contents of the passes you look at are all impossibly good cigars? I mean how can a newbie take out a Bolivar ISOM, an Opus X, or even a PAM when all he/she has to replace it with is a modestly priced smoke?

Well, I am starting a pass of moderate to inexpensive cigars of particular interest to first time passers, although veterans are certainly welcome to enroll. Minimum of 8 to a maximum of 12 participants. Take a maximum of 5 and replace with same. Minimum of rules and maximum of fun, so if you feel you need to leave a super-premium for 2-3 from the pass box, let your conscience be your guide. If you want the premium and leave 2-3, likewise.

I will start with the 25 listed below:
HorsePower by Indian, set of 150, 250,350,450,turbo
5 Vegas torpedo
Evelio
Cacique
CuAvana maddie
Cupido criollo
Gispert torpedo
Gran Habano
Macanudo vintage 1997
Ramon Allones
Astral TVS
La Aurora
Nat Sherman
Macanudo Robust
Dona Flor (Brazilian puro)
La Primadora
La Hoja Selecta maddie
H. Upmann
A. Fuente
Partagas Spanish Rosado
Bock y ca oscuro

No ISOMs or super-prems, but a good selection from mild to wild.

I will provide the initial box, humidification, and mailing labels.

* OPTIONAL CONTEST BONUS * Pick the major league baseball team with the best record as of Sunday morning, May 16, 2004. Tiebreaker: also guess their won-loss percentage. Put 2 cigars into the box labeled "contest" if you want to participate. Just post here to let me know if you're interested. Don't post your team pick, I won't make that public until the end so participants won't be tempted to alter their contest cigars in response to how their picks are faring against the competition. To make it fair, I will let participants know my picks (team and 😵 up front, just so no one thinks I will read all the picks before I make mine.

hey, drnos - EXCELLENT!

i don't know if i'm still considered a newb or not -- been here since january, been smoking for about 4 months seriously, about 7 months "dabbling"ly. 🙂 -- but most of my sticks are definitely in that range. love to participate!

i am in another box pass on another board, so if you get more than 12 new folks, i'll bow out gracefully.

thanks for starting this up!

WTG drnos! Hope you get a lot of response for this - I tried something similar last fall - a "middle of the road gar" box pass, but you know what? somehow those premiums just started materializing out of nowhere....it's funny how that happens. Much luck to you and if you need any help w/ anything, give me an email

Cavallo: You're in! In fact, I wouldn't think of having a pass w/o you.

Ethan: Since this is my first pass, I just may take you up on your generous offer to help. A 'certified boxpass consultant' may help.

Mark and all others: the list is about 1/2 full as of this afternoon (3/22). Just leave me your email and I will contact you. When I get the physical addresses, I will print up mailing and return labels, type up a list of instructions, put together a good box, and arrange the names in general geographic order; the box is starting in SoCal. If you know you will be away from your address in March-April, let me know up front so I can try to schedule the box to you when you're home.

Your responsibilities as a participant are pretty simple: don't hold the box up, and have fun. Usually, the boxpass will have constant updates as to who took what and who left what. Maybe al'Thor can enlighten me why??

I'll let everyone know what the initial Priority Mail postage is so you can have stamps ready. I'm hoping to keep the weight under 1#, because under the USPS regs that really simplifies mailing (you don't have to stand in line.) But if I don't feel that I can provide enough stability and protection, I will exceed 1# before I jeopardize the smokes.

Hey drnos- I highly suggest you take up al'Thor on his suggestion to help you out. He has been instumental in helping me do my first box pass (See NW Box Pass threads). I'll let you know that there is a lot more work to it than it might appear. 😮 I'm happy to give advice too, if you need it. But al'Thor is the box pass guru.

Drnos, I'd love to join also, if you haven't filled up yet. I'm on East Coast, NYS.

oh, and just to set the record on the shipping, it's actually federal aviation restrictions about the 16oz stamp limit. But, don't let that slow you down - it'd be better to wait in line for a heavier package, than to scrimp on the contents.

rd2thbn; Homebrew; Seth Gekko: you're in and the door closes behind you. All set at a dozen now, so I have to close it out.

Thom and all: I have contacted al'Thor with a bunch of questions, and he has already provided me some good help. F'instance, keeping this under the 1# limit is impossible, so we are 'stuck' with a larger (but better!) box. Better that way then to scrimp on the packaging. Also, the contest termination date has to be moved out to June 11, because the box will prolly still be in motion in mid-May. With a 6/11 date I can put the winner's box in the mail on Sat, 6/12.

Email your UPS and USPS address to me at kbccpa. My isp is sbcglobal.net. Let me know if there are any dates between now and mid-June when you know you will be out so I can schedule accordingly. The box will go out this week, and I'll let everyone know the players and the order of the pass.

Thanks everyone, this should be great.
