O.K., for Santa Cruz it's pretty hot today. It's about 88 now and should climb to a good 90. I know that's peanuts to many of my southern brothers. The problem is it rarely gets above the 70s, so almost no one has an air conditioner... including me. Personally, I love warm weather, but so do the evil beetles.

My cigars are kickin' it in my studio/office. It's insulated pretty well with dual panes. Since it's only 240 sq. ft., I've decided to open the refridgerator/freezer. So far it's working pretty well. Early on my thermometer dropped a few, now it's slowly climbing. It's showing 74.5 right now. As long as it doesn't stay above 75 in here for too long today, I think I'll be alright.

This weather is supposed to last for only a few more days so I'll afford the extra pennies to keep from losing my stash thank you very much. When I leave the office later today, I'll close the fridge and turn the fan on in the window. That'll bring in some of tonight's "cooler" air.

Tomorrow, I'll start the process all over again.

Up here in usually rainy Washington, we have had a solid week of nice weather. Today, however, is HOT!, and the humi's are not happy.

Like Sketcha, I do not have the conveniance of AC, and my digi's are reading anywhere from 70-74 degrees.

I also have a daily process of moving humi's to a cooler location. Grrrrr!

I hope your refridgerator vents its hot air into another room, because if it doesn't then opening the fridge door is useless and might increase the heat in the room after a while. A fridge works by taking the hot air inside and passing outward thus making the inside cool. But it won't cool a room unless the hot air is vented to another room, because it will only pump the hot air back into the room, and the extra heat created by the work done, will actually increase the overall heat in the room.

no A/C and you guys live in America right - oh wait you are on the left coast. Never mind.

We went from 89 last week to 49 yesterday. Spring weather flat out sucks.

Last September we had a heat pump heating/cooling system put in. A retro fit from ceiling heat, to now forced air/heat. Besides being a blessing on costs for heating during the winter, it is nice knowing that it will never get too hot in the house while I'm at work or whatever. And me on the left coast and all...go figure! LOL

My humi's are happy! If anyone needs to keep their precious stick safe....send them to me! Oh wait, that's probably not a good idea, I seem to have a problem with fire consuming sticks out behind the house...yeah never mind

Thanks for the reminder, chonie. Obiously didn't think that one through.

Damn't Jim! I'm a cigar smoker, not a climatologist!

Now that I think about it, it could work in the near term. There is already stored negative energy in the packed fridge in the way of sodas, beer, vodka etc. Until the temp of those "cooling blocks" reaches the temp of the room, I should experience a net gain in cooling.

May as well shut it off though, until it's time to go. Then, when I plug it back in, the fridge will re-cool overnight while the window fan vents the compressor heat to the great outdoors.

This might still work.

Present temp. 76.3

What you can do is unplug the fridge. the cool air in the fridge will cool the outside without creating anymore heat. And when the temp of the fridge is equal to room temperature, just leave it off so it doesn't create anymore heat in the room. Turn off as many electronic devices like computer printers, etc., that you don't need on, and that will also keep the temp down a bit.

I know Santa Cruz in on the other side of the bay, but do you have any thoughts?

Thanks,

Ray

Sorry Ray, I don't. I don't make it down their too often. I thought about responding, but since I had no info for ya', I would've just been wasting bandwidth.

I'm sure the locals will steer you in the right direction.

Blue Fin is a nice billiard club, but smoke free. My band has played there quite a few times, but I never into town early enough to go cigar shopping.

Have a nice time in our Monterey Bay.

Braggin' on your fancy rig again, eh Robby?

This isn't Hot'Lanta. This is a rare situation for me. I do plan to do something in my new place though, a closet walk-in or fridgador. Either will have some sort of refridgeration to maintain temp.

Maybe you should move your gars to the fridge. I think that would be better and more practical than leaving the fridge door open. 60's today in Massachusetts.

A fridgeadoor would be AWESOME! It's not a bad idea, even if you're in a cooler climate. For the reasons you listed Sketcha, if you calculate the value of your stash, it can add up quickly! Not bragging, just emphasizing the importance of climate control. In my opinion, it cannot be overstated. I live in a ranch, no basement. You're in an apartment, same issues. Do it! You can get a fridge used, cheap. The climate control dohicky is just a beer-making thermostat used for laagering beer. Don’t do it for me, don’t do it for you, do it for the sticks man, for the sticks!

Robby,

I would kill myself if I lived in an apartment!

The studio/office I speak of is a converted 1 car garage on the back corner of my property. My last tennant tried to burn it down with a cigarette in the planter box, but I couldn't prove it. Now the hole is boarded up and I'm using it as an office/boys getaway room.

Yea, I've got at least $2000 worth at present, probably more.

Tom,

I've thought about that and I just might do it. I've got another fridge that's not being used while the guys are texturing my remodel at the moment. I may be able to get them all in 2 fridges. Some is better than none.

JUST ONE MORE DAY!!!

O.K., it looks like today is going to be a full 10 degrees cooler at 82 so I should be able to keep the office under 75. Tomorrow is forecast to be another 10 degrees cooler.

Alllllmost there.
