Ive read different views on this subject. Do you recommend removing the plastic on cigars after opening up boxes or leaving it on while they sit in your humidor?

heavens to Betsy!

I usually take the whole outer leaf off my cigars.....throw em away, and then smoke the plastic. Fuente makes some tasty cello.

Do a search "all messages" for cello

You would think that Smelly was a FOG by how cranky he gets! 😉

The definitive answer for a relatively new collector is: Leave It On.

Three reasons:

1) It protects the cigars when you are looking thru them, rearranging, transporting, gifting, etc.

2) It gives you extra margin for error if you mess up the humidity in your humidor. The cello slows down the rate of loss and absorbtion of moisture so you have more time to correct humidity errors before it damages your sticks.

3) It's a lot less work.

The generally accepted name for the plastic wrap is "cello" which is short for cellophane. Since you did not know that name, you could not search for it and your search for "plastic wrap" probably came up empty.

The folks here on the boards are generally great, helpful people. You just happened to push a hot button topic.

Cello off, tissue on.

I still believe cigars are meant to be naked, but the tissue doesn't affect humity uptake nearly as much as the cello does.

I've decided to overwrap my sticks with an extra cellophane wrapper for added protection. If you have extra cellophane sleeves please email me and maybe we can work out a trade. I especially need large ring gauge sleeves so they will easily slip over the existing cellophane.

Thanks
