I just won a box of Torano Tribute Torpedo's. I've started buying cigars for me and my fishing buddies (next June). My question: if prices were equal would the Tributes be comparable to the Don Carlos, or Hemingways? How about if compared to Ashton VSG's? I'm trying to get an idea as to where the Tributes rank with the high end cigars. I'd appreciate people's opinions.

The Tribute was a limited production of only 66,000 cigars in three sizes, 1000 each size in boxes of 22 ...

... that particular line will never be produced again.

You draw you own conclusion ... 😉

The 2004 Tributes will be Maduros!

IMO,

The Tribute is no better than the rest of the Torano line.....and that is a compliment to their masterful work. I find the Signature and Exodus 59 Gold to be better overall blends than the Tribute.

The Tribute Maduro......A Whole different story! I am gonna snag me some o' dem, Quick! I have a feeling the maddie is gonna be awesome. The blend and strength was lacking on the natural.

Huh? I thought the natural was as close to a Cuban as it got. Can't wait for the maddies though...I likes 'em on the stronger side.

There has been some mixed reviews on the Tribute but I think it is a great cigar and definitely has some cuban qualities. Once you start paying over $10 a stick, 'value' becomes murky. When you start appreciate truly well made and blended cigars w/ high quality tobacco - small nuances and subtle flavors/qualities become more important, so personal preference becomes more of a factor. I like the Tributes about as much as I like an opus, an odyssey or a nat. hemingway or don carlos. But that is of course mnsho

Yes and no.

The Tributes are not comparable in strength or overall flavor profile to Hemingways, VSG's etc. Maybe not comparable in overall value either unless you like a milder, mellower cigar.

But, these are one of THE BEST constructed, well-behaved, smooth, light-med cigars I have had. On par with Diamond Crown, Davidoff and other "expensive" brands in many regards. (IMHO)

When I first got my box of Tribs I was very impressed great smell, perfect construction and fantastic flavor. I had to buy another 2 boxes. Now that they have some age they seem to have really mellowed and just don't seem to cut it for me anymore. I still smoke them but tend to reach past them most of the time.

DrMaddVibe is corect ... the Tribute (robusto) was as close to the PSD#4 as you can get ...

... and 'X' will say the same.

Thanks brothers. I think I get the picture. My fishing buddies have tastes that range from light medium to medium strong. More like medium with flavor. My brother, who has some heart arrythmia problems, had a La Aroma De Cuba and it was so strong that he gave them all away. The VSG's and Hemmingways would be pretty expensive for us. So a box of Tributes for $142 should satisfy us quite nicely. In the near future I'll publish a list of my possible fishing cigars and see what you all have to say.

I live in Michigan. We go north through Sault Ste. Marie into Canada. Then north to a small town called WaWa. Outside of WaWa we catch a "flag" train in Hawks Junction. The train goes further north to a lake called Oba. It is 14 miles long with only 3 fishing camps on it. We catch walleye and northern pike. My friends and I go every year the 1st week in June. I've known some of these guys for 47 years. We used to smoke drug store cigars. My brother started buying the more expensive ones which we liked. One day I bought some cigars off of Ebay. Then CBID came into my life, and I saw the light. Next, I hooked my frineds. We worked through the usual cigar lines. Now we're fairly selective. Our budget is $125-$130 per man x 6 men for a total of 180 cigars. Quite a challenge.

I wonder how many folks in two years will pull out an old tribute to see what happened over time, and crap themselves wishing they bought ten boxes (or didn't trade away all they did buy). I can't comment directly on them as I haven't tried them.

They are a nice medium bodied smoke with perfect construction, fill, flavor and smoke volume. I will however trade the rest of my robustos (box #427) for your PSD4s (1 fer 1 of course)...

Regretfully, I think the Toranos, whom I deeply respect, misjudged how the Tribute blend would ultimately taste. Without question, they are a beautifully crafted cigar. With even a few months of age, their power level is closer to the Reserva Selecta than the Exodus 1959 or the Signature. For someone seeking a beautifully crafted cigar, to the mild side of medium, the Tribute is wonderful. For those who prefer a bit more oomph in their smoke, these cigars will be a disappointment. Personally, I enjoy cigars from mild to powerful, so these are what I consider a successful buy. I would not buy a large quantity, knowing how they mellow out with age.

Comparing a PSD4 to a Tribute is like comparing a crisp Fuji apple to a juicy Valencia orange. Both, at their best, are delicious, but very different.

Stevo,I disagree to a point. It is the robusto that reminds me of a PSD#4. I just had one the other day and I stand by my findings, however the Torpedo and Churchill are less in the strength category. X

X: I can only judge from the churchills that I swiped when the shopkeeper turned his back.
