Any number of my Cuban-American friends will attest to the fact that it is a badly-run, tyrannical government which imprisons, tortures, and murders dissenters. You probably stayed in accomodations prepared for naive tourists and had limited access to the countryside. You saw what they wanted you to see.

you guys really take the cake talking about something you know nothing about. I mean really. I travelled where I wanted when I wanted and I speak Spanish so I was able to talk directly to anybody I wanted. I visited two medical clinics, a childrens theater, a reforestation project, a fishery and many other places. I talked to a urban planner and walked around Habana vieja talking about urban problems. I did not live in a tourist hotel nor visit an oceanside resort. I smoked cigars and drank mojidos with a variety of people. There is bad in Cuba and there is good. Many people like Castro, some don't like him and some are indifferent to who leads them as long as social services are provided. And you can believe this or not, the American government will not be welcome to interfere and the Cuban-American community will not be able to just take over either. Stop reading the headlines of FOX and the Washington Times and don't fall for everthing the folks in Miami tell you. Its not that simple unless you keep you head in the sand.

Castro is a maniacal "communist". Hellbent on propping himself up as a leader at his people's expense. His nation is half a century away technologically. It's infrastructure is a crumbling heap that hasn't passed 1959!

Socialized medicine is a monatary failure. A drain on any country's GDP.

Imagine if you will a "free" Cuba. A Las Vegas of the Caribbean. An island self sufficient because it's exports of sugar and tobacco are sought after, and a tourist attraction. Imagine the "poison" of Castro eliminated from the minds of her people.

You want to debate? My father is Cuban. They were very successful in a small rum and sugar plantation. They emigrated to Miami on daily visas so my dad could complete his education in America. His grandfather was in Batista's army and saw the writting on the wall. He was too old to leave but made sure the family got out early enough. He still holds the deed to the family land IF Castro ever leaves and his form of "communism" is ripped back to a real form of government then perhaps there's a chance that the family can move to Cuba and start over.
