Oh yeah baby! It's on now!

Smoked #3 today....yummy. This was the first one my eyes fixed on, a beautiful maduro wrapper just teeming with natural oil! A nice fat ring gauge coming to a very sharp point at the foot. I lit this beaut and noted a perfect slow draw, even burn, and dark rich smoke. A hint of spice and maybe even a little mocha action. Smack dab in the middle of a medium to full smoke, IMHO. I kept waiting for this puppy to pick up steam (not really wanting it to, but I thought it might develop into a real buttkicker) but instead it really mellowed out about half way through and was chocked full of flavor the entire time, but not too harsh!

Gonna have to go with 5 out of 5 on this one! A perfect afternoon smoke!

Thanks Jeff!!

Hmmm, this is a good looking maduro wrapped robusto cigar.
Construction 4 smooth, firmly packed
Appearance 3.5
Cut with my gillotine cutter, nice and clean, pre-light draw is nice and easy with just a little resistance. Light went without any problems. Hmm intial thought is a mild to medium strength smoke. Good
flavor....familiar. At first it seemed similar to the La veja Leather
patch, but changed and got away from that thinking. The ash is a darker, rugged looking ash, not real firm, but not flaky. Burn went
fine, no problems or correction needed. As I am smoking it i am now thinking....Torano 1959 gold type flavor, but the overall cigar didn't seem pretty enough in appearance. Hmmm, maybe something from Villazon?

This was a good enjoyable cigar that I would smoke again. If I had to guess (and I suppose I do) Maybe a Punch? Over all rating.....3.5

#2
Boxed pressed Torpedo style cigar, maduro wrapper, 50 X 5 1/2?
Construction 4
Appearance 3.5
Cut same as #1, clean. Has a nice but firm draw. The lighting went without any problems. This cigar seems to be stronger than previous. I'd say a medium to full strength. Nice woodsy flavor to start out. Burn was perfect through out the smoke. The ash was a light grey, but nice and firm...smooth ash. I throughly enjoyed this cigar. My thought was that it is a Indian Tabac Super Fuerte?
Over all rating 4

#3
Belicoso sized maduro 50 X 5 1/2?
Construction 4
Appearance 3.5 nice veiny looking wrapper
Cut fine, light no problems, burn throughout smoke perfect. The pre-light draw was tight, but proved to be not a problem as this cigar provided plenty of smoke. Flavor is good, stronger cigar....about medium I would say. The ash on this one was a medium grey, nice and smooth....firm. Again this cigar has a familiar flavor?
Hmm, this one has me thinking a Perdomo? Maybe a Perdomo 2? Overall rating 3.5 A good enjoyable smoke again

#4

Robusto size, natural wrapper
Construction 2.5 loosely rolled, little spongy
Appearance 3 smooth and pretty looking
Cut little ragged, might be because of a older single edge cutter
Thought a nice relaxing time to try out #4 would be after work today. So I get home and inspect this cigar, and light it up with eager anticipation. The first 3 have been very good smoking cigars, and the
looks of this one leads me to think the same. After the cut I took a pre-light draw.....holy....there is absolutely no resistance! It's like sucking through a straw, I could blow out a candle through this
thing. So I fire it up and change my mind quickly ......I think it is MADE of straw! Very mild, bland taste, but the easy draw allows for plenty of smoke, so it seemed a little stronger at times. The ash
seems to be lighter grey, not firm at all....flaky. There seems to be al ot of taste now coming from this cigar, too bad most of it is bad! Ok, I am about 1/2 through now and I can't believe I was stupid enough
to volunteer for something like this!! I must have been out of my freakin' mind! Just about done now and I am thinking that maybe this one of those "cigars by the pound" cigars you can get on another site that
will remain nameless. Or maybe a CAO (LOL..kidding Jon....I like CAO cigars)

Overall rating 2. All kidding aside (I did have a little fun writing this one) it wasn't completely terrible. (ok maybe it was) It did smoke well, though in my opinion just didn't taste that good. (I'm sure I will find out this is some kind of great cigar! LOL) Although I won't be running out and buying a bundle regardless of what it turns out to be!

#5
Dark wrapper Robusto.. not quite a dark maduro, but I am thinking a
maduro wrapper anyway.
Construction is good 4
Appearance not bad at all 4

So I am figuring that this last cigar has to be better than the fiasco I had with #4. So I chose to smoke it this morning with my coffee. Not a bad choice, or bad cigar. Cut went fine (switched back to my gillotine cutter) Pre-light draw...darned near perfect. Easy with some resistance. Light went fine, and it burned just fine through out the smoke. Upon first lighting and smoking, it is a mild-medium smoke very smooth and mellow. That picked up a little as if smoked down. Flavor was good, not complex, but intriguing. Ash produced was a grey ash, flaky not very firm. Over all I thought this was a decent cigar and would smoke again if I had a chance. My guess as to what it is? A
Puros Indios. Over all rating 3.5

Jeff I enjoyed doing this, and recommend to anyone to have someone hand you a cigar to smoke without the band....it really opens your senses to paying attention to what your doing, tasting and smoking!

#1 A Rothchild sized cigar with a maduro wrapper Nice firm construction. Lit well, probably due to its size and stayed constant with an even burn. Med draw. Had a good flavor that went well with a glass of Merlot, kind of a leather taste. Medium strength. I’m going to guess a Montecristo Buena Fortuna if I have to be exact, Overall rating 4.1.

#2 A boxed pressed Torp with a maduro? or maybe even corojo wrapper? Smooth smoke with an earthy/oaky thing going on possible hints of mocha at times. Decent construction, nice light only had to correct the burn once. Medium strength but ran the whole range of medium as the smoke progressed. Good med draw. Overall rating 3.9 Guess CAO.

#3 See previous post (my favorite of the 5)

#4 A Robusto size, Connecticut wrapper
This smoke looks mild with a very loose roll. Lit just fine but had an uneven burn had to correct constantly. Draws the way it looks…loose! Grassy taste. Didn’t care for it much It was mild as suspected so at least it didn’t kill me. I don’t believe I would even smoke this in the yard. Seems familiar though. Overall rating 1.8. Guess Cu Avana Robusto…strong flashback.

#5
Another robusto with a Cameroon? Connecticut? shade wrapper. Nice looking little stick. Lit just fine burn was even no corrections. A very decent smoke! Medium smoke, med draw, smooth, lots of flavor, tasted just like a cigar. Burned it to the nub where it just turned bitter on me. Good smoke with my Cuba Libra (rum & coke to us Okies). Overall rating 4.2…guess I want to say a RyJ but I’m gonna go with a La Unica.

So how’d I do?

Jeff thanks so much for this contest, I look at smokes a little differently now. It’s amazing what type of stereo types you develop by brand.

Thanks!

Well it was another great contest. And i have proven that without the bands on the cigars your mind will play tricks on you...hahaaahaaa. And you'll see what im talking about after i tell you what these two rats smoked.

#1 Cupido Criollo Revolucion (an everyday smoke for me)

#2 uh.....not yet

#3 Legends red label Perdomo( Goody nailed it)also an everyday smoke.

#4 Belinda Black Epicure #5( i tossed a curve ball in)

#5 IT Cameroon Legend Robusto Grande(love these things)

Well that just about sums it.....huh...oh you want to know about #2?

Ok. It was a drum roll please......PAM'64 torp. That's right, the cigar you cant get for less than $15 at your local got a 4 and a 3.9 rating. It got beat by a Cupido and an IT Cameroon. Now that was a great contest if i do say so my self.

Thank you guys for playing. Goody i have to declare you the winner for getting the Legend guesss right. Dave,im sorry my friend. But atleast you got to smoke a free PAM. Sorry you didnt get to enjoy it as much as you normally would have. heeehee

Look for another Lab Rat contest in the begging of next year. Untill then....thanx to all who have played and all who signed up to play.

Jeff,

This was one of the coolest experiments I have been a part of. And a big plus is the this one had no negative side effects...as;lkhfk;lhash;amn;shndwr;v;sijggs...sorry my meds are wearing off.

One thing is for sure that I have learned to be a more open minded smoker. Thanks again!!
