It seems that the cigar makers think we like the bigger ring guage cigars, based on their introductions at the RTDA this year. However, I fing myself exploring more coronas and petit coronas lately. How about you? Over 50 or under 50(ring guage!)?

I'm with you diver. I am sick of the huge ring gauge cigars. They are merely a novelty and they burn TOO cool. You can't get a decent build off these jawbreakers. I'll take any size, up to 54 (gotta cover all bases of sizes I like), over a walking stick any day.

agreed, some larger ring gauges burn too cool, but likewise some smaller burn too hot, My choice depends on the time i have, 20-30 minutes and i smoke a small ring gauge, any longer I go for my favs 46-54 (but wouldnt rule out a 60. (the problem I have using a v cutter is the larger ring gauges are hard to get a good cut.)

52 or under for me, although under 42 I try to avoid. I agree that these large/big ring cigars that are being introduced are just a fad, something new that I'm not going after. Besides, my kid freaked out seeing me with a burning log in my mouth!

Yeah, won't go below a 42(Corona), but really don't care for over a 50(Robusto).

You want to try a big ring gauge then smoke an EGG by drew estates, I think the gauge on it is around 6253/64.

And if you go over to the "Trades" board, there's an Egg up for trade! Can't pass it up!

problem I have using a v cutter is the larger ring gauges are hard to get a good cut. use a straight cutter and cut on an angle.

I never heard of someone not smoking a cigar because they didn't like how their POS cutter trimmed it. Are you kidding?? This is what you should do.. 1.) buy a decent cutter (V-cutters suck) 2.) Quit this hobby you idiot and give the cutter to someone who knows how to use it!!!

LMAO (especially at WBurger...) You guys crack me up. LOL! Usually prefer a 50 ring myself, but has a range of smaller cigars for when I don't have much time. On the other hand.... lately I've found myself getting more and more on to Torps and these suckers are usualy at least 52 to 54. So there You go...

Yeah, but.....if 60+% of the flavour comes from the wrapper, wouldn't it be better to smoke a smaller ring cigar where the wrapper is a higher % of the total cigar?(and let's not go down that square press/ring guage thing again!)

60% of crap is still crap. A good cigar with a big ring guage is heaven. Make it a really long cigar like7.5 too so it takes forever to smoke it

I like something in the 50 range. While not universally true, I have had more problems with a tight draw on the smaller sizes than with the larger ones. I hate firing up one that I can't get much smoke from without it feeling like some sort of aerobic exercise.
