i LOVE college football. i just hate the bowl system. any system that puts cal up against tx tech this year needs a serious overhaul. i think you should take the top 8 teams and let them duke it out in a small playoff series. why 8? no good reason really. i just think 16 is too many, and it would beat the hell out of what we have today.


man, it's gotta hurt to be auburn. at least USC was considered co-champ last year even though they only had to beat mich in a bowl. if they played lsu or ou, they would have earned it. they didn't. they got it for cheap.

Still think that the Tigers will end up with a share of the title when they beat VaTech. Anytime you can get through the SEC with no losses, that's impressive.

spade - I agree...I am no Auburn fan (of a matter of fact, I graduated from UGA), but when you can go through a season with no losses in the SEC, that says something. I believe it is the toughest conference in the nation.

No doubt the SEC is the nation's best conference, but Auburn will get hosed even if they beat Va. Tech by 50 points. The best they can do is #2, and - it's hard for me to say this - they deserve better.

I agree with you about a playoff system, but just don't see how they will incorporate it into the current bowl system. It's all about the money.

NWB, I went to UGA too and love the dawgs, but you just have to give respect to the Tiggers....I mean Tigers. They handed it to us pretty handily this year.

As an aside, does anyone find it odd that both of the major schools in AL have a conflict of identity? I mean the Tigers shout "War Damn eagle" and those folks that root for Bama (elephants of course) go with "Roll Tide"? BTW, what is a Crimson Tide anyway? Isn't it that disease in the gulf coast water that kils the fish? 🙂

Lets not forget that Auburn is not the ONLY unbeaten team. As far as conferences go the Big 12 ain't no slouch.

I am not a big college football fan for this very reason. To me it seems as if there is a month where all of the effort of the entire season is wasted. Why take a month long break when they could use this time to duke it out in a playoff? Set up the bowl arenas as the place for the playoff and let the best team win. Cal deserves a shot...Utah deserves a shot.

Spade: What to do with the Bowl system? Its not perfect (or even close), so why work around it? My opinion...

Ryan, so are you saying that AFTER the Bowls, then you would have the playoffs? If so, you are extending the season by several weeks, so a couple of games would need to be cut out of the season. if not, you would have the top 8? teams playing 3 additional weeks. Let's not forget they are STUDENT athletes.

Spade, just saying that the bowl system obviously is dated. What I'm saying is: right now, there isn't one team playing a game. They SHOULD be playing playoff games to determine the true champion.

And, I agree with your statement that these are STUDENT athletes. I think that WAY too many people forget this aspect.

I also think that no matter what kind of system there is, people will complain. For instance, basketball has a tournament format, but people still complain about those that did/did not get invited to the tourney.

That will teach Auburn to schedule University of Louisiana Monroe and The Citadel. Hope those rent a wins were worth it boys.

....lol @ Burky, but we tried to schedule Marshall and they ran away, so we had no other options......kudos to Oregon State this year for coming down and beating respect out of us, just sucks that kicking is a major part of the game.....hell, Auburn can thank us for settling up with fate. We were 1 extra pt. away from another SEC Championship (yes, we'd beat Tenn....you'd agree if you saw the Ark game and the point at Auburn was the one WE missed).

anyways, this year is terrible as I can't justify putting Auburn above USC or OU.....they all deserve it.
pablo, losing Orgeron is going to hurt.....I grew up 30 min from his house, so coming back to the south is only natural.

....I just hope Saban stays!
