I'm interested in starting an entirely new type of box-pass: the Perpetual Pass. A couple of features make this different from other box passes.

Point one is to keep it simple. Real simple. I want to use the USPS video tape box for 10-12 cigars only. These boxes can be filled and mailed for the USPS Priority Mail minimum rate of $3.85. The USPS may have another box that's even a little bigger than the tape box, but you get the picture. The box will not be as well protected as Tupperware, nor as well humidified. I have used these boxes without any problem, but if a cigar or cigars stayed in them for weeks and weeks, there could be dryness and damage. But the tradeoff is a very simple pass, and if only 10 cigars are traveling, they should be swapped out with reasonable frequency.

This box pass will not be filled up and then returned to me. I will start the box with about 5 cigars, and I'm looking for a startup partner willing to part with about 5 also. I will send the box to him/her, then it goes on from there. I would want to sign up to receive the box at some point in the future, but I am just another participant.

There is no absolute limit on the number of participants, but the waiting list should be kept fairly short. No reason for you to be signing up for something that won't get to you for 6 months.

It is perpetual; it will go until someone steals it (which I consider unlikely) or until there is no interest from anyone in receiving it anymore.

One tradition of box passes that HAS to be ignored is to "always leave the box better than you received it." We have to use some judgement here, but obviously if the box got better at each stop, it would soon be full of un-obtainable and valuable treasures. I am not the host here, so don't look to me to approve your trades. The collective judgement of all interested parties will control.

If you have any interest, any suggestions, any comments, critcisms or cynicisms, let me know.

Sounds interesting, heheheee.
The one thing you can add is a Water Pillow, for the humidification. That will keep the smokes in good shape.

Do you want everyone to list the takes and puts, or let it stay as a secret? I think there shouldn't be a need to list the takes and puts (my .02). That way if there is nothing that interests you, just pass it on and no one will care.

I guess you will be the last one, you will be sending the box back to the first person.

No, no, no grasshopper. PERPETUAL BOX-PASS. I did ask to add my name on the list, but only as a participant, to see how our little child is doing. There is no "last" name on the list. This will go on as long as it will.

The box was just put in the US Mail to myash07. He is the co-sponsor, will add some ammo to the box and send it on in this [current] order:

? next up: myash07 do you want to participate here?

Here are some guidelines I have already emailed to most of the list:

Posting mail addresses online is not wise, so each person in the chain should email the person next down the list for the snailer. We can all keep track of the box and its progress by posting on the CBid thread.

The beauty of using a small box is that you don't have to go to the PO to mail it. Anything under 1 pound can be dropped off in the delivery box, or just put in your mailbox. When the box is getting near to you, just be sure that you have an empty box ready to go (they're free at the PO) and a Priority Mail stamp (or $3.85 in postage stamps). That way you don't even need to leave the house. Pretty easy, huh?

A humidifier pillow has been suggested. I don't happen to have one, but if anyone does, feel free to add it in. I intended to add a little Oasis pad, but got in a hurry and forgot 😞

There are a minimum of rules: If you like all the cigars in the box, take 'em all and replace 'em. If you like none of them, just send it on. If there are Cubans in the box, replace them with good cigars, but no need for a "Cuban-for-Cuban" rule. The worst offense in any box pass (short of stealing the box) is sitting on the box for too long. The people downstream are all anxious to see it. If you know you're going to be out of town, just let your 'upline' know and you can change the order so the box will come in when you know you can attend to it.

Have fun, 'cause the game is on!
