I put this cross up every year that I have lived in the gated community that I have lived in (4 years). I take down my flag pole and put up the cross at Christmas until new years. It's made from 2 windsurf mast and a 10 ft. piece of electrical conduit. It stands 24 ft.tall and 10 ft across. My back yard faces the gate as you dive in and look straight forward about 200 yards.you look right at it. I have had a least 8 people come to my door and thank me for putting it up. I have also heard some complaints through the grapevine. One man that is now on the board wants it to come down. Last year he said " I go to church and every thing but that cross when you come through the gate should not be up, it's a statement that we should not have to look at".He is from England and I don't even know if he is a citizen they also say he is a Mensa member(98% high I.Q.). No one listened to him and this year he says it's too big. I had a man that I had never met come by last week and say "if you want to make that damn thing bigger let me know I will help you" I think its funny the people that don't like it will not tell me to my face. I would say to him ,well you can deal with that cross now or you can deal with it later. The cross will return next year, Lord willing.
Dan, Happy new year to all !

Keep up the good work, Dan.

Did he really refer to the cross as "that damn thing"?
Kinda ironic, no?

Making it bigger, for the sole purpose of spiting your unfriendly neighbor, would reduce you to his level.
I don't think that is in the spirit of the very symbol you wish to display.

tailgater, I just quoted what he said. I agree with you although I did chuckle at what Charlie said.My display is not to harass any one or to intentionally irritate someone. But if people in a private community like I live in can put up reindeer, Santa's and snowmen then I have the right to put up what I know what Christmas is all about, the birth of my Savior. Hey, I say damn sometimes too. Shame on me. Glad I'm saved by the grace of God and not by what I say or do because I would be going to hell if that was the case!

"The idea that government doesn't grant rights is offensive to those who wish to control our lives. Therefore, to gain greater control, the idea of natural rights, God-given rights and Christian values must be suppressed. The idea that rights precede government was John Locke's natural law philosophy, which had a significant influence on our nation's founders, but they chose to refer to natural law as rights endowed by the Creator. The attack on Christian ideas and Christian public displays is part and parcel of the Leftist control agenda in another way. Certain components of the Leftist agenda require that our primary allegiance be with government. As such, there must be an attack on allegiances to the teachings of the church and family. After all, for example, if you want popular acceptance of homosexual marriages, there must be a campaign against church teachings that condemn such practices. Emboldened by their successes in the courts and intimidation of public officials, Leftists will no doubt make other demands; there's no logical end point except complete Christian capitulation. There are Christian symbols and exhibits in many Washington, DC, government buildings that will come down, such as: Moses with the Ten Commandments inside the U.S. Supreme Court, George Washington praying in the Capitol Building, Abraham Lincoln's speech mentioning God carved inside the Lincoln Memorial. Religious programming on the radio and television will come under attack. After all, there's Federal Communications Commission permission to use the 'public airwaves.' If Leftists say they have no such intention to go after television, radio and other public expressions of Christianity, what they really mean is that they haven't softened us up enough yet. I'm not quite sure of just how we should respond to the ongoing attack on Christianity and American values, but we'd better do something quickly." --Walter Williams

Keep it up Dan... but as TG said don't let them lower your standards and bring you down to their level...

Dan, I'm in awe of your testimony for the Lord. You're an inspiration, brother. Next year, I hope to display a nativity scene out front instead of just the lit/mechanical deer, etc.

I hope that I'm as cool as you though, if someone complains to me. I'd better pray for more patience! LOL

Keep it up!

It's quite possible to be intelligent and a **** at the same time--just look at Rumsfeld! At any rate, between freedom of speech and the fact that the majority of people in this country are Christians, I say more power to you.

Very nice Dan to see that cross up on Christmas! Around my neighborhood mostly you see snowmen and Santas. Even though that is fun it is not relaying the true message of Christmas.

Thanks Russ,

I've stood in Christ's Church in Oxford and wondered why his name sounded familiar. Guess I'll walk a little more reverently on his grave next time.

ps. Dan.... Give em Heck! It's not my thing, but why should you back down.

...."He is from England and I don't even know if he is a citizen"

In that case we should definately kick him out of the country....he could be a terrorist. A non-Christian from another country (yes, believe it or not, there are more countries out there on this big Earth) is the worst kind of sub-human on the face of the planet.

If a Buddhist in your community planted a big lit-up Buddha every year, or John Travolta lit up a neon "Scientology" billboard, would you defend their right to do so?

I agree, keep quiet, put up your cross and express your faith, and don't sink to the level of a p*ssing contest. Also realize that not everyone is a Christian, and when you condemn them for not believing as you, then you are doing the Devils work.

Nice display though.....

I'm sitting here trying to put myself in the neighbor's position...

...LOL...I got it...

Can you imagine if you lived in RickMavin's neighborhood???

(((Hey honey, look at this, Rick put a 24 foot raindeer on his roof and it seems as though there is some sort of political figure of some kind kneeling behind...... honey, get the kids and go inside!)))

Country

P.S. in all seriousness, I'm glad you are going about this with a level head instead of the "I'll show you" attitude.
