OK, each winter, my wife and I take a 3-4 day trip. Usually, its somewhere I can go fishing!. This year, she wants to try someplace new. So I thought I'd make a Cbid contest out of it...why not!??

I want suggestions of places where my fellow BOTL/SOTL would reccommend ,from their own experience, a great place for a long weekend.

A couple of parameters...
I'd still love to be able to fish, at least one day...
We're not "beach people",
We want nice accomadations
Good site seeing...
Some shopping...(gulp)
Under 4 hours of flight time from TX (So no Paris, London, etc.)

The winner will be chosen, by my wife, if we choose your suggestion.If none of them are chosen...My wife will pick a number between 1 and however many posts there are, and that post number will win.

NOW, the winner gets a 5er(10er?) of good smokes!!!

BUUUT...if we choose your suggestion...and it really ROCKS...I'll come back to ya with a 5er of Premiums!

If is sucks....well, then I'll just have to be disappointed.

Setup a tent in your backyard. Or go to your local state park and do the same. You would be surprised at how much fun you will have. And you can buy more cigars with the money you'll save on motel rooms.

How about Florida,
Lake Okeechobee, has some of the best Bass fishing to be had. I used to go down there, years ago with my family. Great fishing. and a good time.

Minnesota - Mall of America and Fishing on great lakes (might be frozen thou right now 🙂 )

was a great trip we took a few years back. The mall is amazing even for us NON shoppers. I drove a Nascar Simulator and was the highlight of my shopping experience. Great peoiple watching and resturants and bars in the upper level.

or - VEGAS and Fish the strippers on day trip. See the grand canyon and hit the strip

Branson or Eureka Springs, stay at the lodge (not four star but nice!) Plus you get to go fishing and she can hit all the outlet malls!

Okeechobee is close enough for plenty of sight seeing but not sure about shopping. I love that lake and you can stay at Roland Matin's place. Guides can put you on 8-12 lb bass with regularity - of course you will be using live bait.

I hit Branson every other year - tons of shopping and close to some trout fishing. If you have kids the Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede is a must see.


My recommendation is an all inclusive Jamaican trip.

As someone that lives in and loves Minnesota, may I suggest you don't vacation here until at least May. From late October until late April, this state is mostly a big ice box and/or gray & brown wonderland. Come May, people awaken from their hibernation and spill into the streets, creating a lively atmosphere.

Oh, and there's way more than the Mall of America here. If you do visit, let me know, and I'll throw a bunch of ideas your way.

Try Hawk's Cay Resort on Duck Key, Florida. We’ve gone there a few times during the winter and had a fantastic each time. If you have kids, they have an interactive dolphin program that they will love (adults can play with the dolphins too).

I know your're not a beach person, but I suggest Grand Cayman. Excellent fishing and some of the best snorkling and diving in the world. Swim with the stingrays, dolphins, and/or sharks. Lots of great accomodations to choose from (I like the Westin), and lots of shopping and a couple of nice cigar shops.

Fort Bragg/Medocino california.

Its on the coast, but not really a "Beach" environment. You can charter ocean fishing, or fish the lakes. Mendocino is a town built for shopping with quaint shops, restaurants, and one of the best breweries in the world...North Coast Brewing company. I live a few hours away in a car and to me it is heaven on earth. During certain times of the year they have food festivals, whale watching, and many other activities to choose from. You can camp at Mckerricher (sp?) state park located on the ocean or stay at a hotel or bed and breakfast. Hotels run you from anywhere in the range of 75 dollars a night up to 300 depending on your choice of luxury.
