Rick, by what count would you say that Al Gore won? All the recounts, no matter how liberal the organization, have still wound up with Bush winning Florida! Nurenberg Council? Really, you call the Supreme Court a Nazi tribunal! I am most ashamed of you!!!! Charlie

I have no opinion on lbj or jfk (other than the fact that I wish he would not have imposed the trade embargo on Cuba, but that is a whole other thread). as far as Clinton, well what can I say that hasn't already been said? Except that I strongly disagree with his policy of ever increasing levels of infringement of our second amendment rights. By apparatchik I merely meant to imply that Gore was a staid follower of the democratic (read Clinton) party line.

calavera: perhaps we disagree on the meaning of the word "apparatchik".

char5353: when a court makes a decision for political expediency, with no regard for it's legality, it is corrupt. rehnquist with his gold affectations on his sleeves (gosh, i didn't know the property i bought was restricted. i'm not good at legal documents), and elmer fudd, (i did not tell that woman it might be a pubic hair. it depends on your definition pf pubic). are these your hero's? mine usually have 3 kinds of meat, 2 kinds of cheese, lettuce, tomato, mustard, and are served on a crisp bun.

So much politics on a picture post. I'm giddy. But to suggest it is arrogant to claim a vote for nobody is no better than no vote at all is a bit harsh (but the point is well taken). As for Gore's vote tally, the means may upset you, but the results are the same. Apparently you feel it would have been benificial to use the courts and public moneys to recount the recounts in order to prove the inevitable. I don't agree.

tailgater: probably would have been cheaper than the tax rebates to corporations and the fact we are in debt again.

The US Economy has been in a recession for some time now. Then the tragic events of 9-11 made matters worse. The fact that we're not in a real depression economically is a tribute to the strength of America. But to suggest that a stimulus package (via rebates) is the cause for the slump shows your lack of understanding. Or perhaps you feel the government deserves more than the 40% they currently steal from American pockets. Don't forget, Jefforson and company kicked the British out for taxing the new colony about 3%. How would they feel today?

I do not agree that a vote for a losing candidate is a wasted vote. In that case, anyone who voted for Gore wasted his vote and should've voted for Bush. The only wasted vote is the one that isn't cast, and there's damn sure plenty of those. I usually vote for the Libertarian candidate. If enough people wasted their vote and voted the same way, we could stop the endless cycle of this year GOP, next year DEMs, business as usual either way. I would've voted for Perot if he hadn't gone nutso during his first campaign. But opnions are like alpha hotels. We've all got one.

Good points. My original comment regarding a vote for Nadar as being a waste was based on the intent of the vote. Rick didn't vote for Nadar, he voted AGAINST Bush and Gore. He may as well had voted for Tailgater. Same effect.

Des, After further thought, let me rephrase my post. Voting for Nader was a waste of time however, the fact that Rick exercised his privelege to vote and helped to elevate GWB to the White House should be commended!

New guy here. Just wanted to make a comment concerning the scandals of the "Clinton Years". I personally would take those good old days of sex scandals and a do-nothing Congress obsessed with impeachment over our Executive Branch now being used as a halfway house for ex-Enron employees. At least that wasn't costing me money and putting people out of work.

The danger in your logic is that you are admitting the voters no longer control the country. If we relegate ourselves to only voting for a Democrat or Republican, we will only have a choice of the candidates the parties pick for us. Face it, the average voter has no say in which candidate the parties designate. If they can perpetuate the belief that voting for anything but either of the Big Two is a wasted vote, they maintain the shared stranglehold on the politics of this country. Face it, there really is very little difference between the two parties. Most is simply media fluff that plays on emotions.

Enron was a no win situation for the Bush administration. Let's face it, this multi billion dollar conglomerate didn't fold because of recent problems. The demise started long ago, so if you want to blame an administration blame your over sexed egomaniac idol. I don't blame either administration. And Bush is criticized for "letting" them go belly up. What if they bailed them out? This was the biggest catch 22 in history. What needs to be done now is to set an example so others can't (or won't) follow suit. But I believe that is more in the hands of the judicial system than in the Oval Office. At least it should be.
