This is the second year I've had a raccoon crap on my roof.

I catch that little f**ker, he's going to be a cap.

Coons are really nocturnal so if he is out in the daytime he is sick or extremely hungry. Saw one this Spring out in the day as the ground was starting to show after a couple of feet of snow.

Know one family that left the damper open on their fireplace. Coon came down the chimney and was found the next morning inside destroying the house.

In PA if you hire an exterminator to catch it they are required by law to drown it. A .177 caliber air rifle even at 60 feet makes sure they do not come back. Same end result but cheaper and good target practice.

If you corner it, like any other wild animal, it will rip you apart to defend itself or protect its young. Too many people get caught up in how cute they can be forgetting the are still a wild animal.

^^ I like your air rifle solution.

Maybe I will just dust off my old wrist rocket. I could get accurate with some target practice.

I have a live trap. I love to torment them then shoot the damn thing.

When they are ripping things up in the yard at night I also use a live trap and then in the morning end their misery with point blank pellets to the head.

Next time that coon stares you down, just look him in the eye, grin and say, "Mr. Coon, you do look like supper." He'll take off. If he doesn't, eat him. Marinate him in vinegar to get the gamey taste out. Coon, collard greens, peas and cornbread makes a good Southern meal.

If you are just looking to scare him away, paint ball guns are great for coons, opossums, stray dogs, cats, or whatever. They rarely come back after you've popped them a few times with paintballs.

Kill him with a pellet rifle in town, or a 22 rimfire if you live outside of town. We used to hunts coons a lot when I was a kid and we always carried either a 22 RF or a 20 gauge single barrel shotgun. You didn't want to tote anything heavy through the woods at night and if you coon hunt you are going to do a lot of walking.

I fixed his wagon.

I went to HomeDepot and the guy sold me a spray bottle of Critter Ridder. Some sort of nasty pepper spray.

I spotted Rocky doing his daily climb up my fire escape. So I knew I had him in a temporary, vulnerable position. I leaned out the window, and blasted him in the face for a full 10 seconds or so. He was hating life during that encounter.

Probably rabid. If it does it in the day put 2 in its little noggin. Never good having rabid animals roaming.

I don't think he will be back.

Easier for him to move on down the 'hood. Easy pickings of city trash everywhere. Nothing really special (worth a face full of pepper spray) for him on my roofdeck.

This weekend I noticed some damage to the bird feeders that looked suspiciously like I had another coon around. Set the live trap yesterday. This morning I had a masked bandit staring out of the cage. He saw the light....and it was not the sunrise. He won't ever be coming back.

You know sometimes we forget how versatile racoons can be whether it's countryside or urban setting- same with coyotes & to a lesser degree bears, moose and deer.

A coon used to live under my house. He worked for the railroad and was fond of making fermented squeezings. We used to smoke together but he couldn't be trusted around anything valuable. I chased him away one night with a flashlight and haven't seen him since.
