Well, in celebration yet another weekend sweep by my Orioles, who now sit atop the AL East by 4 games, I am calling in Lucy from the bullpen. Heres hoping I am making this call next Monday.

Peace and Brian Roberts Grease-

I am sure they are illegal. Why should any player be allowed to see clearly when trying to hit a 90 mph fastball? I think this is an issue that Congress needs to address....

I guess he is only a cheater during the day games huh?

Roberts doesn't wear them all of the time, so don't credit his hot start solely to his high-tech eyewear. His amber set is of no use at night, when he plays most of his games. But none of the dozen or so players who had been fitted by last week has turned them back in.

Ah...but they aren't just corrective lenses Mr. Smarty Pants

Refute that they dont artificialy enhance performance. They not only correct his vision but ARTIFICIALLY ENHANCE it as well.

They allow him to perform above and beyond his NATURAL ABILLITY to hit the ball. Just as steriods artificially enhance your ability to hit the ball farther/ recover faster. The only difference is one is illegal the other isnt. Oh yeah...and they have big $$$$ behind it. BUT they BOTH serve the same purpose. This isnt a legal issue, its an issue concerning artificial abillities in Baseball. Im all for the ban on performance enhancing drugs. Get em all outta the game. The players too. But this is the same issue. Artificially enhancing ones ability to perform.

Until ALL major leagers start using them Brian Roberts stats should have the same proposed asterisks as the steroid users. I say its BS and they shouldnt be allowed.

Oh yeah....nice rack

So then, Beat, you would propose that all MLB players who enhance their vision should be banished from the field of play?

Historically speaking, by the end of the 1970s, the wearing of glasses and contact lenses in the Major Leagues had become commonplace. One out of every five major leaguers wore glasses and a total of roughly 50 players used contact lenses by the end of the decade. (Even umpires received official approval to wear glasses during games, as part of the 1974 collective bargaining agreement.)

****** Allen won the American League’s MVP Award in 1972, marking the start of a three-year span in which the award belonged exclusively to gentlemen wearing glasses. Oakland’s Reggie Jackson followed Allen by winning the MVP in 1973 and Jeff Burroughs, then with the Rangers, won the MVP Award in 1974. Would you suggest that these gentlemen have their MVP's tainted by asterisk?

And then....what would happen to all of those Oakley sunglasses in the locker rooms of today's teams??? Guess we would need to trash them too?

geez, beat. every chance you get, huh? this kind of stuff only makes people hate bonds that much more. it's completely different. you, and everyone else knows that. should we modify the stats to exclude any golden glove winner that wore sunglasses? they aren't corrective lenses. they enhance the ability to follow the ball during sunny days. how about batting gloves? how about the cup? they didn't always have one. how about the equipment catchers use today vs. what they used 40 years ago.

bonds is a punk. bonds used steroids, and they helped him hit more homeruns than he ever could have hit without them. i don't care about the legality of the issue. i just don't like him, and there's no way you'll ever hear me say he could have done what he did without the juice. this pro-bonds campaign of yours is kinda startin' to make you look kinda bad. seriously, you're just startin' to look like a whiner. relax, and have a bucanero.

Apples and Oranges

The didn't enhance...only corrected.

Mr Roberts (Brian not Henry Fonda) contacts are SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED to pick up the laces on a baseball. Not just correcting his vision enough to allow him to see.

So, what do you say about a player who doesnt need corrective lenses using a non perscription pair of those? They are available. Is that not artificially enahancing his abilities?

Oh yea, from first hand knowledge....um those oakley's are just sunglasses. The only help you see in the sun. They dont allow you to pick up the spin on a pitch. And most palyers dont wear them when they hit.

oh....She has nice..... ears.

YIKES lofty...

What the hell...this has NOTHING to do with Bonds. Hate the **** all you want. I could care less. I just dont like when people who dont have freakin clue what it takes to do what he does to say without steriods he would be S**T. Thats my argument. If hes taking roids bust his ass. But STILL he would be one of the best hitters ever with or without them...

I think those lenses are BS.

i know i shouldn't start this, but i think i already did. do you think there are people in the league that can already see the laces sufficiently for batting purposes? i do. i have very good vision. it's been better -- you know, i'm getting older -- but it's still very good. i can still see things others that don't need corrective lenses can't see. my grip, on the other hand, sucks. i don't hold a bat well. now, keep in mind that this part is from memory. i haven't played baseball in quite some time. batting gloves were great for me. the bat wouldn't slip in my hand nearly as much with a glove. not everyone needed it or even benefitted from a glove. my point is that this is an equipment enhancement. in my mind, it's no different from sunglasses in the outfield or pads to help a squatting catcher be more mobile or feel less pain. not everyone needs the help. should they be illegal? i don't know. i don't care. if they become illegal, though, i think they should seriously reconsider a lot of equipment SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED to help the players perform better.

i'm really not very passionate about the subject. i've just noticed a trend -- a very strong trend -- of you finding new ways to defend bonds. again, i don't like him, so i think that's what set me off. i'm gonna get back to staring at ms. pinder for a while.

THATS what set me off!

I aint defending Bonds, the man. Just in awe of his swing. I still think the lenses are BS tho..Oh well, I like ketchup on Salami too.

do her implants "ARTIFICIALLY ENHANCE" her beauty
does it increase her "NATURAL ABILLITY" to turn you on.
maybe we should ban all implants or maybe put an asterisk next to her vital statistics

The contact lenses are nothing more than sunglasses you wear on your eyes not your ears.

Ken Griffey is trying them out and he doesnt even have a vison problem
