I hate this pool.
My daughter talks me into this pool a few years ago. Come on dad I'll pay for it. And she does. She's in her early twentys, at home and has a good job.
But who is stuck cleaning it, checking the chemicals, doing the maintence. Not to mention fighting with the neighbor and the Historical Society just to get it installed (live in an historical area of Kingsville MD.) ME. Who hates pools in general..ME. Who gets in the stupid thing twice during the whole, long, hot summer.. ME.
And duing the winter, do I get a break.. Noooo.
Of course I don't have the pool cover on right so every time the wind blows I'm out there putting it back on.
Come summer I need a new pool cover. Who pays for that.. ME. Need more chemicals. Who pays for them .. ME.
Did you know that the shock treatment you put in at the beginning of the season can ruin your clothes if you're not careful? I didn't. I do now.
My daughter gets engaged.. Gets married this past January and moves out. Who's stuck with the pool. ME.
Take the pool with you I say. But we don't have room dad.
Sell it I say. I don't want to sell it. We'll come up and use it all the time and take care of it.
Who falls for this line... ME.
Started to open the pool this past Sunday. Took the cover off, my daughter and her husband cleaned it. Whatever they used to clean it with killed all the grass around it.
I hooked up the pump, started it up and of course a hose leaked. Had to get some silicon ($5), put that on it and wait a day for it to dry. Next evening start it up again. Hose dosen't leak but the part of the pump that it connects to does. Need a new O ring ($8). Back to the store, get that put it on. Start it up again. That part dosent leak put the big tank with the filters in does. Take a close look at that. There's a crack in it. Go to the store the next day and buy a new top for this thing ($60.) Have to take parts off the old top to put on the new one. (pressure guage, pressure relief valve) Put it back together. Start it up. Now it leaks around the pressure relief valve and where the two pieces join together. Back to the store. Buy a new pressure relief valve and an O ring. ($20)
Put it all back together. No more leaks. It works Finally.. I hate this pool.
If someone would like to steal it please let me know and I'll tell you know when I'm not home. And if I happen to come home while you're stealing it I'll look the other way.
I hate this pool.
I mean hate it with a passion. It's like this huge, money pit of a creature that sits on my lawn just defying and laughing at me.
And what does my daughter do to me now??
Dad, I'm pregnent. I'm going to have a baby in January. We can't get rid of the pool. The baby will really like it next summer.
I hate this pool.

I've got a built-in that was there when I purchase my house. It was put in in 1972. It needed to be totally redone. Was a pain in the a$$ dealing with pool companies but it finally got done. I really enjoy the water, so the maintenance is not bad for me. Well worth it. Get an automatic chlorinator, vacuum, and timer....makes it much easier. If you don't keep up on the maintenance, they can really drive you nuts.

Remember - toys that have lots of parts and make lots of noise. Sugar them up and send them home.

As for the pool, Tell her that the baby would not be able to use it for a long time, and you'll get a kiddie pool until then. Then ask where she wants to store her pool until she has room for it.

Everytime we have people over that have never been to our house, they look at the backyard and say "Wow! You have a big back yard. Why don't you put in a pool? It would be great." I always tell them I have seen what happens... it's cool for the first year, maybe 2 at best. After that, it is a pain in the ass and no one uses it. Now I will show them this post. LMAO!!

we had one just like that growing up, we lived next to a neighbor who had a willow tree right next to the fence....the thing constantly dropped leaves into the pool that clogged up the filter and caused all sorts of problems...my dad begged the neighbor to cut the tree down. He figured it wouldn't be a problem since all six of her kids were over at the house swimming every day....she told him to get the hell off her property....

don't forget also the hundreds of kids that would come over everyday of all shapes and sizes to "Play" with me or my siblings...of course they showed up with towels draped over their shirtless backs, thongs, and swim trunks...suddenly sixteen year old boys wanted to "play" with a ten year old.

oh yeah, and of course then there are the safety precuations: my parents were terrified to leave on vacation because we had a pool, the entire neighborhood knew it and we were liable...my mom left to go shopping one day and found kids jumping off of our roof, onto the trampoline, and into the pool...we are fortunate to never have had anything but minor scrapes and bruises, it could have been much much worse....

its not to say that it wasn't enjoyable, I was an all-star swimmer and had the option of swimming in college as well. I used mine a lot. I would go to the rec pool in the morning swim about six thousand yards, the come home, have breakfast, around noon head into my own pool and do a few hundred laps, then at night go back to the rec pool and swimsix thousand to ten thousand yards. I loved to swim competitively, then I moved away, fell out of shape and don't have the access anymore, I would love to have that kind of access again...

Bud451,
I enjoy my pool in the summer, but I agree with ddandb. All my older sons have grown up and moved away, now I have to clean the damn thing.

Have fun this summer 🙂

Hi
I do not blame you. The least she could have done is buy you a real pool;Just wait until that thing starts falling apart.

Why still live with me..
I may bit@h and complain, but she's my baby and I love her. And my wife and I felt a lot better with her at home till she got married.
But now that she's gone I can run around naked whenever I want..

I still hate the pool.

i agree about pools. been there, done that, etc. like a boat (and prob a mistress, though i have no firsthand knowlege) - they're fun at the sign up, but my, oh, my - what a chore!
tell your daughter that they are EXTREMELY unsafe for kiddos UNDER 4 - pull the sucker out, and get the baby a sprinkler - much safer, much more fun, and a lot cheaper.

OMG---you had me laughing so hard. I'm sure it isn't funny to you but the way you wrote it was priceless.

You could do what a guy I work with did... chop down one of those trees next to it and have the ax slip. Nice slice right down the side--unrepairable.

You could just tell her that it is a liability that you just don't want to have any longer. Buy her a membership to a summer pool or a YMCA for the next holiday instead.

My kids always wanted one but I wouldn't do it. They swam competitively, they were in the pool enough---and I didn't have to take care of it.

Tear the pool down, goddammit!!!!!

"Sweetpie, you want (to keep) the pool? I'll put it up for you in your garden, then. You don't have a garden. Tough luck - no garden, no pool!"

I can sure understand your "problem", but you can't live your kids life for her(/them). I see it this way - I'll help when/where ever, but I won't (ever) let their "situations" run my life. I'm a grown up and on a day to day basis, my own "troubles" are more than enough. I can't sort out my kids ones too, just to make their life convienent.

TEAR DOWN THE F***ING POOL. Think of all the spare time you'll get back to smoke.

My neighborhood has an HOA. But we got 7 HUGE playgrounds, 2 pools (inground olympic sized) basketball court, tennis court, volleyball court... and some other MoFo takes care of all that crap so I can use it.

Who says HOA's are bad?
